AFCB Player Profiles

In this section Cherry Chimes gives some information about the current AFC Bournemouth squad. It will give details on their performances this season and assesses their strengths and weaknesses - if any!

Goalkeepers

No 1: Artur Boruc
DOB: 20.2.80
Nationality: Polish
Contract: 1 year from April 2017

Twitter @ArturBoruc
The Polish keeper is really going to put pressure on the existing keepers at Dean Court and was perhaps a bit of a surprise loan signing by Eddie Howe in September 2014. The keeper is highly rated though having been Southampton's first team and having won many caps for Celtic and his country during his career. Having helped AFCB win promotion to the Premier League in May 2015 he became the first permanent signing of AFCB in the Premier League. Artur  signed a new one year contract in April 2017 and will aim to retain his number one spot. He was the fans' player of the year in 2017.

No 32: Adam Federici
DOB: 31.1.85
Nationality: Australian
Contract: 3 years from June 2016
Twitter @federici32
Adam Federici joined AFCB from Reading in May 2015 when he signed for three years. He was added to the squad after Eddie Howe pointed out that the goalkeeper section needed strengthening ahead of the Premier League. Whether Adam can push Artur Boruc to start some games remains to be seen, but this shot stopper is an able deputy to have when he is needed. Adam signed a new three-year contract in June 2016. He had a knee operation in the spring of 2017.

No: Ryan Allsop
DOB: 17.06.92
Nationality: English
Contract: 2 year from May 2016

Twitter @AllsopRyan
On loan at Blackpool
Having joined the squad in the January 2013 from Leyton Orient for 3.5 years, Ryan quickly managed to jump the queue to finding a regular starting place in the team when it was ion League One. He made a match winning penalty save against Oldham in the 2012/13, but lost his no 1 spot to Lee Camp before going out on loan to Coventry. He did get on the bench for the last match of the promotion 2014-15 season against Charlton Athletics and signed a new one year deal in the summer of 2015 and then renewed for two years in May 2016 having played many on loan at Wycombe during 2015-16 and for Portsmouth in the League Two play-offs. Made his Premier league starting line-up game against Leicester City in May 2017.

No 12: Aaron Ramsdale
DOB: 14.05.88
Nationality: English
Contract:
Twitter @AaronRamsdale98
Aaron signed in the January 2017 window from Sheffield Wednesday. He is an England youth international keeper a U18 and U19.

No Asmir Begovic
DOB: 20.06.87
Nationality: Bosnia-Herzegovina
Contract: long-term (5-years?)
Twitter: @asmir1
Asmir signed for AFCB on 30 June 2017 from Chelsea for approximately £10m. He has been a first team keeper at Chelsea and Stoke City and previously played eight games for the Cherries when on loan from Portsmouth in 2007.

Defenders

No 2: Simon Francis
DOB: 16.2.85

Nationality: English
Contract: 3.5 years from Jan 2016

Simon is like our rock in the back four. He seems so cool at his job and never seems flustered even when put under pressure. He has a fabulous cross on him and I like the way he plays quick passes in and around the oppositions box. I like his confidence, his quick thinking and positioning which is usually spot on. Player of the season in 2014-15 and 2015-16 he has rapidly become a favourite with many fans for his dashing runs down the right wing. Of late he has played at centre half and he looks just as strong there.

No 3: Stephen Cook
DOB: 19.4.91
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from May 2017

Twitter @SteveCook28
Cookie has strong desire as well. Yes, he is young and still has to get that consistency of performance that some of his other teammates find, but he is one that you want battling for you. A big heart and full of belief, he will mature at AFCB into a very good player under Eddie and Jason. Fearless and very comfortable on the ball, Steve is the model centre back who also likes to score a few goals. Steve extended his contract that was 3 years from May 2016 to a new 4-year contract in 2017 until May 2021. He won the Micky Cave Trophy, Vice-President's Award and Exiles' Player of the year in 2017.

No 38: Baily Cargill
DOB: 13.10.95
Nationality: English

Contract: 3 years from July 2015
Twitter @b_cargill
Baily will had his first Championship season in 2014/15 having been brought up from the Development Squad. An accomplished central defender for his age, Baily says he can pick a pass and will surely get a chance to do just that on a bigger stage. He played in many of the successful games in the League Cup run which took the club to the quarter finals for the first time in that competition in 2014 when the team went out to Liverpool. He has had several loan spells including at Coventry and Gillingham in 2015 and 2016.

No 11: Charlie Daniels
DOB: 7.9.86
Nationality: English
Contract 3.5 years from Feb 2016
Twitter @chazdaniels13
Charlie is a tough competitor, he does not give up and will run the length of the pitch all day long if he has to. Do you think he and Marc Pugh were separated at birth? They just seem to know exactly what each should be doing and their partnership continues to flourish in the Premier League. Charlie has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Cherries until 2019. Hopefully an England call up is not too far away.

No 15: Adam Smith
DOB: 19.4.91
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 year contract from May 2016
Twitter @AdamSmith912
Adam had a loan period with us in the 2011 season and was part of the team that made it to the League One play-offs with AFCB. He is a quick and talented right back that has already been capped at England U21 level. While he has been one of the main subs in 2014-15 he played his part in helping the team win promotion to the Premier League even if his last minute foul on Atdhe Nihiu of Sheffield Wednesday will not be remembered for his favourite moment in an AFCB shirt. In the Premier League he has had some memorable games including his great strike against Everton in the thrilling 3-3 draw.

No 26: Tyrone Mings
DOB: 13.3.93
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 year deal from June 2015
Twitter @OfficialTM_3
Tyrone was AFC Bournemouth's record signing at £8 million when he came from Ipswich Town FC. He put pen to paper on a four year deal on 26 June 2015. He is known as a fast and powerful left back who likes a tackle and is good in the air. With Eddie Howe's influence he will be one who could quickly establish himself in the Premier League as one of the best left backs in the country. Now he is being employed as a centre-back.

No 29: Rhoys Wiggins
DOB: 4.04.87
Nationality: Welsh
Contract:
Rhoys returned to the club in 2016 from Sheffield Wednesday but he spent the 2016-17 season out on loan at Birmingham City.

No: 14 Brad Smith
DOB: 9.4.94
Nationality: Australian
Contract: from July 2016

Brad signed in the summer of 2016 from Liverpool and while he is seen as a left-back I am sure he may well add cover in the left midfield position as well of required. Whether he can gain a regular spot will be a difficult task for him but if he can get a run in the team we may find that he is one of the best signings that the club has made. It is a signing of potential but Brad's potential is already a long way down the line as an international player and he can hopefully start putting in performances that raise his level even more.

No: 37 Corey Jordan
DOB: 4.3.1999
Nationality

Contract:
Corey Jordan has already made his debut for AFCB in the senior team against Cardiff City in a pre-season friendly. As a centre-back he has a few players ahead of him but as a 17-year-old it is great to see some young players finally getting in and around the first team.

No: Marc Wilson
DOB:17.8.1987
Nationality: Northern Ireland (represents Republic of Ireland)
Contract: two year deal from August 2016
Marc Wilson was signed from Stoke City. He played before for AFCB in 2007 when on loan from Portsmouth. He should provide cover for Steve Cook and Simon Francis at centre-back. Went on loan to Stoke City Jan-May 2017.

No 5: Nathan Aké
DOB: 18.02.85
Nationality: Holland
Contract: long-term (5-years?)
Twitter @NathanAke
Nathan Aké enjoyed a great six months at AFCB in the club's second season in the Premier League and soon became a fans' favourite. He joined permanently on 1 July 2017 and for a club record fee said to be £20m. Aké also made his Holland debut during the summer of 2017 and will be a strong contender to become a regular starter for AFCB.

Midfield players

No 24: Ryan Fraser
DOB: 24.2.94
Nationality: Scottish
Contract: 3 years from Aug 2015

Twitter @RyanFraser94
Gosh, we have a small team in terms of height (5ft 4in). Another speed merchant who gets his head down and looks to paralyse the opposition with his wriggling run. He is young and has time to learn when to look up and find a pass and when to go for broke to hit that dead ball line, before pulling back a cross. Perhaps he won't score many headers but then again there aren't many that do score from headers in our team. Aberdeen's lost is certainly AFCB's gain.

No 8: Harry Arter
DOB: 28.12.89
Nationality: English
Contract: 3 years from June 2016
Twitter @HarryArter2

I believe Harry Arter is the best payer in our squad and he has earned that for his performances over the last two years when he has become the driving force of the team. Okay, he can be a little reckless and he is still trying to curb his chatter to the ref which always gets him in trouble, but you can't argue that on the playing side he has really developed at AFCB and I hope he gets better still. Harry was voted the fans player of the year in 2014-15 - the promotion season to the Premier League.

No 7: Marc Pugh
DOB: 2.4.87
Nationality: English
Contract: 2.5 years from Nov 2015
Twitter @MarcPugh7
Puuuuugh! As he is fondly called is our left wing supremo. I don't know how many Cruijff turns he makes during any one game on average but it has to be at least six or seven. He has a great talent for playing people in or setting himself up with quick one-twos around the box and he chips in with a good goal count. Certainly a fans' favourite at Dean Court. He signed from Hereford United in League Two and has been with the Cherries all the way through their incredible rise up the leagues.

No 4: Dan Gosling
DOB: 1.2.90
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2017

Dan will be one of the most experienced players at AFCB having played in the Premiership at both Everton and Newcastle. He is a battler and a goalscorer that should add more midfield power to the Cherries and some real quality. Another good free signing in 2014, Eddie Howe is pulling in players that will serve the club well without paying out big transfer fees. Dan extended his contract in 2017 for four years, taking him up to the summer of 2021.

No 19: Junior Stanislas
DOB: 26.11.89

Nationality: English
Contract: 3 years from August 2016

Twitter @JuniorStanislas
Junior moved to AFCB from Burnley on 26 June 2014 and he adds creative power to the team going forward. He worked with Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall previously at Burnley so we all hope that we see the very best of Junior but that probably has not happened yet. Another free signing, with excellent experience - the squad has the talent to make a good fist of the Premier League. His 2015/16 season was tremendous and he'll hope to imporve on that. Junior signed a new contract in August 2016 having originally been on a three-year contract from June 2014.

No 6: Andrew Surman
DOB: 20.08.86
Nationality: English
Contract: 2 years from June 2017

The end of the September 2014 window saw the return of Andrew Surman to AFCB from Norwich City, but this time as a permanent signing for three years. Surman is the ticking signature of the AFCB team and while he may not be the best finisher he keeps the ball better than anyone and is a play maker that has the qualities to keep the ball in the danger area and to win it in areas where other players are not as dogged. Andrew was named the Players' player of the year in 2014-15.

Harry Cornick
DOB: 9.04.95
Nationality: English
Contract:
Twitter @CornickH
Harry Cornick was the Development player of the season in 2014-15 and he is pressing for a pace in the first team squad. A lively winger he should have a great future ahead of him. He was signed from local side Christchurch. Harry was on loan at Orient in 2016 and joined Gillingham on loan in January 2017.

No: 22 Emerson Hyndman
DOB: 9.4.86
Nationality: USA
Contract: 4 years from June 2016
Twitter @emersonhyndman
Emerson was signed as a free agent having seen his contract expire at Fulham at the end of June. AFCB did have to pay compensation though to Fulham as Emerson was an U21. The central midfielder had started to become more of a regular player in the Championship in 2015/16 for Fulham and AFCB beat off plenty of interest from abroad in snatching Emerson for the club's second season in the Premier League. He went on loan to Rangers Jan-May 2017.

No 16: Lewis Cook
DOB: 3.2.1997
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2016
Twitter @lewiscook_
Lewis Cook was seen as one of the best prospects in the Championship in 2015-16 and AFCB's interest in the midfielder never died down even though they could not prise him away from Leeds Utd until the summer of 2016. He is an England U19 midfielder and his strength and power should be a welcome addition to the team.

No 33: Jordan Ibe
DOB: 8.12.1995
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2016
Twitter
Jordan Ibe might only be 20 but he comes with a big reputation from Liverpool FC. Having played Europa League and Premier League matches he is the kind of calibre of player who is set to take AFCB to the next level. He needs to up his scoring potential but he should get plenty of opportunity to sharpen up in front of goal in this side. I hope it is the making of Jordan Ibe.

No 58: Matt Worthington
DOB: 1999
Nationality
Contract
Matt made his Premier League debut against Leicester City away in May 2017.

Strikers

No 13: Callum Wilson
DOB: 27.2.92
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2016
Twitter @officialcwilson
Callum has shown exceptional finishing qualities in League One while at Coventry City and it is a big move for him to come to AFCB in July 2014. Seen as strike partner for Yann Kermorgant his pace is what marks him out as a player that had a sensational first full season in the Championship scoring 23 goals in all competitions. Now he'll be looking to do even better in the Premier League having signed a new four year contract only a year after coming to the south coast. A cruciate ligament injury has kept him out of the side for much of his first season in the Premier League and he suffered the same injury on his left leg in January 2017.

No 17: Josh King
DOB: 15.1.1992
Nationality: Norwegian
Contract: 4 years from August 2016
Josh King was a Man Utd graduate and started out at Romsas and Valerenga. He has been at Blackburn Rovers since 2013 but had loan spells at other clubs while he was at Man Utd. A quick and strong striker, Josh King could well take the Premier League by storm. He is equally adept at playing on the left wing and I have my fingers crossed that he will score bucket loads of goals. He joined the club in May 2015 and renewed a year later for another four years.

No 10: Max Gradel
DOB: 30.11.97
Nationality: Ivory Coast
Contract: 4 years from July 2016
Twitter @maxigr04del
Max Gradel had a protracted summer move to Dean Court from St-Etienne but the Ivory Coast international has been in terrific form in 2014-15 and it is hoped that he can replicate that in the Premier League for the Cherries. It is great to have Max back at the club.

No 9: Benik Afobe
DOB: 12.02.93
Nationality: England
Contract: 4.5 years from Jan 2016
Twitter @BenikAfobe
Benik joined AFCB during the January window of 2016 and he signed for an undisclosed fee but it was thought to be in the region of £9m which would be a record at the club. He made his name at Wolves and MK Dons but was originally an Arsenal graduate. AFCB needed a striker with power and pace and Benik will be a key player going forward.

No Lewis Grabban
DOB: 12.1.88
Nationality English
Contract: 3.5 years from Jan 2016
Twitter @grabbs22
Lewis Grabban is in his second spell at the Cherries having rejoined in January 2016 after returning from Norwich City for a fee reported to be around £7m. Lewis has great running energy and an eye for the spectacular goal. He will be a great spearhead for AFCB's attack and is a popular member of the squad having helped them achieve promotion to the Championship in his first spell at the club. He went on loa to Reading in the Championship from Jan-May 2017.

No 31: Lys Mousset
DOB: 8.2.1996
Nationality: French
Contract: 4 years from June 2016
Twitter @lysmousset9
AFCB's new U20 international French striker scored 14 goals in 29 appearances for Le Havre in Ligue 2 in 2015-16 and the Cherries will be hoping he can do just as well with his move across the channel. He is quick and powerful and has scored some spectacular goals but he will have plenty of competition at AFCB.

No 44: Sam Surridge
DOB: 28.07.88
Nationality
Contract: until summer 2018
Twitter
Sam was in the senior first side squad for the first time in January 2017 when he travelled to Everton.

No 18: Jermain Defoe
DOB: 7.10.82
Nationality: England
Contract: 3 years from July 2017
Twitter: @IAmJermainDefoe
No stranger to Dean Court, Jermain Defoe returned to the ground where he made his name when on loan from West Ham United. He remains the club's record goalscorer for the number of consecutive goals in which he has scored - 10. He also has a habit of scoring on debut for every club he has played for.
