Bournemouth midfielder set for Wigan loan

Emerson Hyndman is said to be considering a loan move to Wigan Athletic in the Championship, according to The Sun. Emerson played in the last game of the season for Bournemouth away at Burnley in a 1-0 win, but has found first team football hard to come by with the Cherries since his loan move ended at Rangers in the summer last year.

The choice to send Hyndman out on loan would indicate that Emerson is not considered ready yet to force his way into this Bournemouth team, and while that might be so I do wonder why Emerson was not loaned out last season? He certainly will know everything he has to about how AFCB play and what they require of him, and yet last January he could have gone out on loan then rather than find himself waiting for a game at the end of the season.

No doubt, Hydman's place will be taken by David Brooks who is thought to be imminently signing for AFCB from Sheffield United for a fee reported to be around £11.5m. For a Championship player it is a high price to pay if he is not going to get games and the tale of Emerson would perhaps be a warning to AFCB fans that not every player that is plucked from the Championship will turn out like Lewis Cook.

Howe seems to have accepted that recruitment at AFCB is not going to be an exact science even if the best possible considerations are made to try and limit the risks before players are bid for. Hyndman may still play extremely well for a team like Wigan as he did at Rangers, but if he doesn't fit in well enough to the Bournemouth way of playing it's best to see if he can enjoy his career elsewhere and perhaps get a permanent move away or acquire the kind of qualities that Howe wants at AFCB.

Hyndman was a big player for Fulham before he signed for the Cherries, so it seems hard on him that he is now trying to recover that playing career back in the Championship while Fulham are no going to be battling with AFCB in the Premier League. I wish Hyndman all the best, but I do want future signings to fair better if they come to AFCB. Can I get excited about the potential signing of David Brooks? Not really, until I see whether he is capable of making the grade. Unfortunately, it seems Hyndman has not made the grade so far.

In other news, Bournemouth striker Mikael Ndjoli could be set to join Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on loan.

Should Simpson be loaned out to a Championship side?

Bournemouth have not found it easy to get their younger players into the first team and yet the talent the club is starting to acquire really needs to get game time if they are to learn and develop. The club has already released centre-back Baily Cargill and I am starting to wonder what kind of message this sends out to a player like Jack Simpson who managed to break into the first team for a period last season?

Jack Simpson will want more games next season.

Just like Cargill, Simpson has shown he can mix it with players that are more experienced and he didn't look out of place playing for the Cherries in FA Cup matches against Wigan or even against high-flyers Man City. And yet, Simpson's prospects at playing a more  involved part at the Cherries next season might be limited if as is thought Eddie Howe is looking to bring in more defenders. So does this give Simpson the signal to go and play on loan at another club?

I would not be at all surprised if Eddie Howe tells Jack that to play in the Championship will develop him much faster than simply training with the first squad at AFCB. Whether Simpson has any say in his future I don't know, but when he sees how Ryan Fraser benefited from his time in the Championship, it would surely be of value to Simpson to get that kind of experience. It will mean that other clubs get a good look at him and Bournemouth might be keen not to attract to much attention for the player, but it's not fair on the young defender just to keep him on the bench every week in my opinion.

I think Simpson could do a very good job for a number of clubs. He has the quick thinking skills to make him a valuable asset and he does the basics well.  A club like Derby where he could listen to the views of Frank Lampard could be a good destination as they look to add youth to their squad.

Is this summer the great AFCB sell-off?

While AFCB have been reportedly making bids for players, no player has yet walked through the reception doors at Dean Court with just a couple of days to go until July. Yet, David Brooks is looking like the first player to be signed by AFCB after having had a medical at the Dorset club yesterday, according to the Daily Star.

Will we see many more players go through the exit door this summer?

Still, the news about players leaving the club continues to gather pace. Following the exit of Benik Afobe, comes the departure of Max Gradel and Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are thought to be battling over the signature of Lewis Grabban. These may not be key players for AFCB, but they could be just the start with Harry Arter, Jermain Defoe and Josh King hotly linked with moves away from the club. Should Bournemouth fans be worried about the exodus of so many players?

I believe it is time that several players are getting opportunities to move now. Whether they are the right players to move on though is the bit that I'm not so sure about. Bournemouth will welcome the cash that comes from the exit of some high wage earners and if it frees up funds for bringing in more players than expected it could be a bonus. But so far, AFCB have not seen a queue of players wanting to join the club, and while many of the players walking out the door are attacking players, it is arguably the defence at AFCB that needs most strengthening.

Bournemouth still have plenty of time to make signings, but the period of those signings now looks more likely to run into the period when the players are at their summer training camp, unless Neil Blake can bring some good news of signings in the next week. As we have said David Brooks, 20, from Sheffield United looks imminent, but the fans will want to see some bigger signings come next August.

The intensity of deals being done is rising and with the knowledge that there are players who have questioned whether AFCB is still right for them, I am fully behind the club shifting out players that are perhaps unhappy with the pay structure or their lack of games. AFCB need a happy camp. The only thing is, I don't want so many players looking for a move that it takes up time and prevents the club doing more work on trying to get the signings they want to bring in to the club.

Something tells me that this has been the most difficult transfer window for AFCB since they have been in the Premier League, and there is little room for them to make any errors about getting the right players in and retaining the best of their squad.

Ings' availability should alert the Cherries

Danny Ings has announced that he has been given the go ahead to leave Liverpool this summer and that should alert ACB to the possibility of resigning their first player that was sold for £1m. While Ings has been troubled with injuries at his time in Liverpool, Burnley is the only other Premier League club that he has played for, and AFCB were back in League One when he left for Burnley in 2011. He signed for Burnley then, because Eddie Howe was manager there and the possibility of another link up with Howe is no doubt an option in Ings' mind.

Danny Ings wants to play regular Premier League football above all else and he could do that at the Cherries if Bournemouth did decide that they have room with Benik Afobe already sold, and Lewis Grabban also likely to be sold this summer. Ings scored his first goal after his long-term injury in q 2-2 draw with West Brom in April 2018. He played as a fill-in striker as games mounted up for Liverpool with their Champion's league run, but with Divock Origi returning after his loan year at Wolfsburg, Ings is expected to be frozen out of opportunities.

Bournemouth have a great crop of forwards with King and Wilson the most picked strikers followed by Defoe and Mousset. The addition of a striker like Ings would give Howe more option to try different combinations, and we could find that King and Ings are more compatible that Wilson and King. Ings will also believe like Callum Wilson that he is just a run of games away from becoming a regular England international and Eddie Howe certainly has a favouritism for taking on English players when they are available.

AFCB do need defenders as a priority, but top English strikers are not available very often. Danny Ings is a good goalscorer and has been at a club that AFCB can learn from. So it would be a great acquisition in my opinion.

I expect the tabloids soon to be linking Danny Ings with a possible move to AFCB. His transfer fee and wages might be at the top scale of earners at AFCB, but Howe will pay the best price he can for quality and Ings has the quality in front of goal that is sure to at least make AFCB pick up the phone and ask what the price would be.

Josh King and Ritchie plus cash swap - no deal for AFCB

Josh King has made his feelings known. He wants to play in the number nine position and Eddie Howe may have been pondering whether he has been fair or slightly unfair to the forward who may well have done better last season if he had been given the main striker role. If Eddie is not willing to budge then Newcastle is obviously a good option for Josh King. But Newcastle Utd's play to offer Matt Ritchie in exchange for Josh King were said to be wide of the mark last night, according to Bournemouth Echo journalist Ned Payne.

The problem for Howe is that he has several strikers that he has preferred for that role. While Benik Afobe has departed he still has Callum Wilson and Jermain Defoe vying for the main striker position and Lys Mousset has aspirations to play more games next season. But can any of these players play in a wider role? I'd argue that Lys Mousset probably could, but Josh King is certainly the best of these players to feature wide on the right or left. King's problem is that he is so versatile.

When the team had many injury problems in the 2016/17 season it was a great move to convert King into the main striker. It worked well and King obviously liked and thrived on the responsibility. While Howe has tried to incorporate Wilson and Defoe, it has meant that King has been played in a wide role again. Would it mean a backing down and loss of face for Howe to give King more of a go as a number nine? I'd argue that Howe must do what he thinks will get the team the most goals and best results. It's not about any individual but more about how the unit can achieve better performances.

Now Newcastle United have dangled the return of Matt Ritchie in front of the Cherries to try and get the Josh King deal done. With Jordan Ibe starting to flourish last season it may be difficult to find space to fit Ibe and Ritchie in the team. For me, I don't see it as a great swap deal even with a big transfer fee as well coming AFCB's way, as Ritchie is not a striker that is going to get more than 10 goals in a season. Ritchie is great for delivering assists and a few goals but he isn't as versatile as King.

If Howe does pick King to be the main striker next season though, King has to deliver. Defoe and Wilson will not like being pushed aside and it would be u to Josh to show he is the striker who won't miss chances. He has been doing it for Norway in the international friendlies this summer and I suppose all that adds to his argument. He is good enough to be a main striker and can AFCB be too choosy about keeping him back when he has scored more goals in the Premier League as a number nine? Howe's vision of how he sees his striker may need some radical re-thinking this summer and King might have given him something to think about. Newcastle Utd won't wait forever. The fact that the story won't go away though tells me that AFCB could well be thinking of letting King go either to Newcastle or elsewhere.

Toulouse complete capture of Bournemouth winger

The Daily Mirror stated that Toulouse had agreed terms of a £1.75m deal for Max Gradel, and AFCB has confirmed today that Max has left the club for an undisclosed fee. Gradel had a successful season in keeping Toulouse in La Liga last season having been their top goal scorer, and with Saint -Etienne and Galatasaray circling for the winger, Toulouse wanted to push their claim though having had the player on loan.

I don't feel we saw the best of Max Gradel at Bournemouth from when he signed for the first season Bournemouth were in the Premier League. His cruciate ligament injury was a big factor in why fans missed out on seeing Gradel at his best, but by the time he had recovered Ryan Fraser was playing well on the left and Max appeared surplus to requirements.

The knockdown price of £1.75m for the 'flop winger' as the Daily Mirror like to call it is perhaps a bit non-understanding of the difficulties Gradel had on the south coast, but I suppose for the price Bournemouth paid for the Ivory Coast player's services they did not have a great return. Gradel did not seem happy though when he could not get into the team and his desire to go back to play in France left AFCB with little option but to try and get what they could for him.

Getting players in from foreign leagues has not been a great success for the Cherries in recent seasons but Gradel was seen as a safe choice considering that he had been at the club before. It didn't really work out in his second spell but with Lys Mousset being the only other player in the current squad to have signed from La Liga, it may be that Howe will be scanning the French league for another signing this summer.

Will Bournemouth make move for young Chelsea starlets?

Coventry City are said to be closing in on a loan deal for Chelsea full-back Dujon Sterling, claims the Coventry Telegraph, but last January the right back was a top loan target for the Cherries and he might be again with Adam Smith having little cover in that position.

Chelsea's youngsters will be snapped up by several teams on loan this summer.

Sterling has a long-term deal keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2022, but the England U19 player is believed to want a loan placement. While Howe was reportedly keen to take the player on a loan deal last summer and last January, Chelsea decided they would keep the player, reports the Sun.

Since then, Coventry City's Mark Robinson may have got the jump on the Cherries to attract the player to League One football next season.

Sterling is not the only Chelsea youngster that AFCB are believed to be interested in. Charly Musonda ended his 18-month loan move to Celtic rather abruptly after not getting sufficient match time and has recently been seen at LA Galaxy's gym, reports the Scottish Sun. AFCB were the club touted as most likely to have taken the midfielder on loan last January before he signed the 18-month loan with Celtic, according to the Evening Standard. But Bournemouth's interest was also shared by Watford, WBA and Newcastle, said the Daily Telegraph.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth should keep tabs on Kenedy who has ended his loan spell at Newcastle and has returned to Chelsea. The Geordies are keen to sign the 22-year-old permanently after the Brazilian played 12 times for United and scored twice for them after the January loan move. But with Newcastle United's ownership not changing they may not be in a position to meet Chelsea's asking price, which would put other clubs like Bournemouth on alert. Football London say that Kenedy's future is 'still up in the air'.

Another Chelsea youngster who impressed against Bournemouth in the League Cup Quarter-final is central-defener Ethan Ampadu. Ampadu fractured his ankle in March in a Uefa Youth League match against Real Madrid, reports the Evening Standard. This would certainly make him unlikely to be loaned out until the January 2019 window.

Having found the loan system worked well with attracting Nathan Aké to Bournemouth, there is a every possibility that this channel could influence Chelsea to allow another of its players to come to Dean Court, but Aké was recalled in his first loan spell in January 2017.

On other news, Napoli and Fenebahce are linked with moves for Asmir Begovic, says the Bournemouth Echo. Newcastle are also said tho be offering a swap deal - Ritchie for King - which I can't see AFCB ever agreeing to.

I ventured down to the In off the post shop on Old Christchurch Road yesterday, to see how Michael Dunne's Dean Court Days was drawing the AFCB fans to the area. The book signing had a couple of ex-Cherry players in attendance with Paul Morrell and Richard Cooke happy to sign a few copies and get snapped next to the pages that told the story of Harry Redknapp's colourful years at Dean Court.

The loveable ex-West Ham and Portsmouth manager could not make it in person, but there was plenty of talk about the good old days and some anecdotes that I had not heard of about what the players got up to on one of their pre-season tournament trips. I won't enlighten you here, but Paul Morrell might share such tales and a hapless Willo on another occasion if he holds another player's Forum.

I had previously been up to the stadium itself and was pleased to find out that the Dean Court Days had completely sold out at Bournemouth's club shop. Fathers Day had no doubt stripped the shelves bare. So I was glad to see a few copies still  on display at In Off the Post.

Michael Dunne told me that he chatted to Harry Redknapp on at least three occasions when compiling the book and had to trawl through hours of microfilm to research some of the details for the book, but some of his best insights came from interviewing the likes of Paul Morrell, Richard Cooke and Shaun Teale who could pick out some of the highlights of the Redknapp years.

It was good to see that a few young Bournemouth fans had also come into the shop to see what was going on and Paul Morrell could at least explain that he played in what was Charlie Daniels' place in today's modern squad. Most of us though were old enough to remember the days when Richard Cooke would storm down the wing and leave Man Utd's Arthur Albiston far behind. Michael Dunne even suggested that United kept changing their full backs to give someone else a go at trying to stop the flying Richard Cooke who eventually left Dean Court to join Luton Town before returning to the Cherries in 1991.

Richard Cooke said it was sad that Willo could not be at the event yesterday, but that he was out of the country. Willo and Morrell were certainly at the heart of practical jokes in the Redknapp years and I know there are still a few more tales that you will find out about if you pick up your copy of Dean Court Days.

Do Cherries have the perfect replacement if Howe ever decided to leave?

Stephen Purches has been awarded the UEFA Pro License having completed the highest level of UEFA's coaching badges. There will be few Bournemouth fans that would ever want Eddie Howe to leave the club, but to me it looks like when that day arrives the Cherries might be in a better position now with Purches having passed all the badges to coach and manage at that level.

Of course, he would be unproven as a manger and it would be a risk whenever Bournemouth have to change managers, but at least the club has an eye on the future. The thought of Howe suddenly being picked up by another club one day and AFCB having to bring an outsider in to manage in the Premier League actually terrifies me whenever Howe is linked with a managerial vacancy.

Badges are only a stepping stone though to learning and much more will have been learned on the job with Purches having taken charge of the U21s at Bournemouth and coaching the first team in recent years. His job may well get much busier with the new training facilities being set up in Poole and hopefully Purches can learn more from Eddie Howe in the next few years so that there is a good continuity built up between the staff and players.

I'm sure that Purches coaching career and many of the other blocks that are being put into place around the club are being done, because Howe wants the club to have a stable and long term future. What he won't be able to control though is whether Purches himself finds that a job offer comes that would enable him to take the opportunity at first team management that might not be at AFCB.

Declan Rice in his new West Ham kit - will he get to wear it next season?

The Sun has reported that West Ham United's Declan Rice may be potentially a target for the Cherries and Crystal Palace, after being told he will not be an automatic starter for Manuel Pelligrini's Hammers. New signing Issa Diop is expected to take his place. A glimpse of what the Cherries could be buying was shown on the Sun's cheeky pages with a clip of Man City's 100th goal of the season in the last campaign which was a Declan Rice own goal. It certainly wasn't Rice's highlight of the season, but if he can't get in West Ham's side does that make him a good pick for Bournemouth?

The 19-year-old is an international player for the Republic of Ireland, although he is yet to win a competitive cap which does still make him eligible to play for England. Still, he had Irish grandparents and was reported in the Daily Mail recently as saying it is 'a load of ****' that he would consider changing allegiance to England.

Rice is reported as rejecting an £8000 a week deal to stay at the Hammers. He played 31 times for the London club in 2017/18. West Ham paid for more for Fulham's Ryan Federicks and it has meant that Rice is looking very likely to make a move this summer having only had one season in the Premier League. The defender would perhaps be more impressed if the Sun had shown his man of the match winning performance against Tottenham at Wembley last season. The Cherries should go back in for Leicester winger

Leicester City are said to be interested in bringing Andros Townsend to their club and said to be battling Newcastle for the privilege, according to the Guardian. The potential signing of Townsend at Leicester will reopen the debate as to whether Demarai Gray will seek a move this summer, after a lack of starting opportunities at the King Power stadium. AFC Bournemouth will again be at the top of the list for potential candidates to boost their squad with this long term target.

Is Demarai Grey more amenable to a move this transfer window ?

According to the Leicester Mercury, the Cherries made bids of up to £25m last summer for the wide man. That was despite Gray signing a new four-year deal at Leicester in November 2017. Last Season Gray played 35 games in the Premier League and scored three goals and one assists, but in 18 of those games he was a substitute coming on to play. Would Bournemouth be able to give him more starts? AFCB fans may question whether Gray is as good or better than Ryan Fraser, and I think they both have the attractive way of playing that excites Howe. Moreover, Marc Pugh has struggled more with injuries in the last campaign and Howe needs to put pressure on Fraser to get the best out of him.

Signing Gray would make sense in terms of another Englishman who has the ability to get into the national side and while Gray has done okay at Leicester, his career needs a boost to get him into the senior England squad. No doubt Howe would be telling the player that he can do that for him like he has done with Lewis Cook.

Demari Gray could still holds a grudge over the way Bournemouth tried to constantly sign him when he was a Birmingham player. But the way Bournemouth have never lost interest in him must at some point make him listen to what the Cherries have to offer. 

While Rihad Mahrez has not yet moved from Leicester, it is expected that he will leave to join Man City this summer. Leicester will not want to sell Gray, but Claude Puel may feel with the cash from Mahrez and potentially Gray he could bring in three or more players to the King Power which would give him more of a chance to put his stamp on the team which is still largely dominated by the players that Ranieri had from the title winning side.

Allsop finds new home at Wycombe

Ryan Allsop (Rocky) will be playing League One football next season at Wycombe Wanderers. The former Bournemouth keeper returns to Wycombe having played on loan there in 2016. Ryan has signed a three-year deal and will no doubt be relishing the chance to be a number one keeper.

Allsop was one of Howe's signings in 2013, during Howe's second management spell at the club. While he quickly came into the team and proved a big asset in Bournemouth's promotion run to the Championship, he failed to hold down a place at that level and had a long period out of the game with glandular fever.

Before long, Ryan was heading out on loan at Coventry, Wycombe, Portsmouth, Blackpool and Lincoln City. He was seen as a keeper that would make it to the Premier League and he did play for Bournemouth against Everton in the Premier League in 2015 and against Leicester City in the 2016/17 season. But Allsop was overtaken by the signings of Adam Federici and Artur Boruc, and it has been clear for some time that Bournemouth were struggling to find a role for him at the club. Having been released by AFCB earlier this summer, he is free of the past and can look to see if he can be the best keeper he can be again.

Hopefully, Ryan can excel in League One like he did for the Cherries. He has not really had a permanent home for a few seasons now, but his fitness and performances helped Lincoln City to the Checkatrade Trophy last season, and he will want to make a good start at Wycombe who won promotion last season. We wish him all the best.

Meanwhile, AFCB have announced pre-season games against Sevilla and Levante.

Go to Neil Warnock for transfer news - mystery Bournemouth signing

Bournemouth have not made a signing on record but confirmation that the Cherries have got a deal done comes from an unexpected source - Cardiff manager, Neil Warnock. Warnock claims that "Bournemouth have just bough a player that we were looking at actually, but it was more than what our budget was," said Warnock.

While Cardiff City are taking so much interest in ACB, why don't they look at Emerson Hyndman?

The Championship promotion specialist was reviewing the Premier League fixtures and in particular assessing Cardiff's chances in the first game of next season when he mentioned the transfer deal on Wales On Line last week. Why has there been no official announcement from AFCB? Has a deal been held up for some reason? My guess is that Sheffield United might have agreed to let David Brooks go after Bournemouth's continued pursuit. Warnock has strong contacts with United and will know all about the player who was playing games in the Championship.

Perhaps we can expect an announcement in the next day or two? We could find that the signing though is for a youth player that is not such headline news. The mystery player though is fascinating to speculate about.

While Cardiff our linked with an interest in Dan Gosling, I wonder if Eddie Howe would be more ken on passing on another Bournemouth midfielder who has not come up to the grade as far as Howe has shown so far - Emerson Hyndman. The midfielder played 59 minutes in Bournemouth's last Premier League game against Burnley before being replaced by Gosling and needs a club where he can play football having had little opportunity at the Cherries.

Bournemouth striker seeks pay rise

Calum Wilson has sought a wage rise to £60,000/week, according to the Sun on Sunday. The forward is hoping to improve his pay structure and stay at AFCB. But if the Cherries decide that Wilson is not yet deserving of a pat rise, that could signal to clubs that the striker who was equal top in the Cherries' equal top scorer in 2017/18 could be a possible transfer candidate.

Is Wilson worthy of a pay rise?

Bournemouth are facing a turbulent summer with not only trying to get signings in, but now having to pay out just to keep hold of their main stars. The club has to weigh up how important it is to keep hold of individuals and how much the wage structure has to be revised in such circumstances. Bournemouth have seen some big names like Jermain Defoe and Nathan Aké sign for the club on terms that have no doubt broken the pay structure. Now there is a need to keep the dressing room harmonious ahead of the new season while also trying to attract new players that are value for money.

Wilson's claims for a higher pay day could succeed, considering that his last contract was in the summer of 2016, and he is half way through his contract having recovered from two potentially career breaking injuries. Keeping that focussed to come back and be the man striker for the club has shown how much Callum wants to play for the club, and if any player is deserving of being among the high earners at the club it should arguably be the players that want the responsibility to keep the club up.

Being cash-rich in the Premier League still means that AFCB have to balance the books and when the club has been successful, it is only natural that those who have shared in that success want to be rewarded. It cannot be easy either to see new players then come to the club on better salaries, and it is a problem that AFCB have to manage well to keep everyone together and pushing in the same direction. If players don't except the best offer that the club can make them though, it will be better to find other players that can.
