Turf Moor is always a ground where Howe has to prove himself

It might not have been the best of times when Eddie Howe lead Burnley in 2010-12. He would have wanted a better run of results than those he achieved, and yet many of the Burnley faithful have given him a generous welcome every time he returns, perhaps because the man who followed him has done so well for the Lancashire club.
Eddie needs a win.
Sean Dyche has done amazingly well at Burnley and is clearly a great fit for the club. We can argue why it didn't quite work for Eddie and Jason at Turf Moor, but I reckon its the ground where he most feels under pressure to prove himself even today. That could be a good omen for Bournemouth because they need the points more than ever now. While Burnley push for a European place, Bournemouth are battling to stay in the league and if Burnley is the start of the recovery for the Cherries, Howe will have perhaps the biggest smile of anyone on Saturday.

I imagine it is a strange feeling when Howe and Jason revisit Burnley. They have been back a few times now and while some things change the noise of the crowd and most of the surroundings will remain the same. It is hard to imagine that Eddie Howe doesn't give himself a few minutes of reflection of what might have been, whenever he revisits the club and rubs shoulders with those who knows so well.

That time has of course gone and Eddie Howe knows he has to do a job on Burnley. It is a challenge that he didn't succeed in during December, when Dyche's men came out on top, but Bournemouth have won at Burnley in recent seasons and Howe has to believe his men can find a way to do it again. While Burnley have been on a good run, they do only have two less defeats than the Cherries, and even though catching Burnley may be beyond the Cherries this season, taking three points off them would be one of the best results of the season for the Cherries.

  1. You make some good points. Eddie's time at Burnley is remembered positively by most of us Burnley fans. Wasn't his return to Bournemouth prompted by personal circumstances? I enjoyed his time at Turf Moor. I view him as a success because he steadied or ship and Sean Dyche was able to build on this. I wish him every success - but not this coming weekend!

  2. As a burnley fan i feel he has nothing to prove. Burnley were not in a great place when he came and although dyche took us further eddie layed the foundations for him. I like eddie and i know this season isnt the best he has had but wish him all the best. Top manager, top bloke.

  3. When Eddie came to us he more than steadied the ship. He had some amazingly good transfer deals, which ultimately allowed Sean to build from the ground up.
Not many proper Burnley fans have any sort of negative issues about Eddie and Jason. Family reasons brought about his departure, nothing to do with how he was managing our club. Sadly the Cherries will take a beating tomorrow, but I'm sure Eddie and Jason will keep the Cherries safe for another season of EPL football.
