The Cherries: still top of the pile

It was quite a day at the Goldsands on Saturday with Mark Clemmit of the BBC striding around the ground pre-match to check up on the Cherries' credentials to be title holders come the first week in May. It was all smiles as the Cherries were a good story waiting to come into full blossom this Spring. Project promotion, under Eddie Howe, to the Premier League is getting closer and the Championship finish is going to be one of the most exciting times that AFCB fans have ever witnessed.

I caught the BBC Football League show highlights that showed Clem being greeted by Jeff Mostyn as two good friends who had seen much harder times at the club in season's past. There were no buckets this time for Clem to report on but he did see a football side that are now a formidable outfit that the town is really proud of. 

It is going to be difficult to win the league, but AFCB are doing everything right and even Clem admitted that the Cherries march to the top flight could be aided by only having to play two more teams that really have anything to play for in the run in. Eddie Howe is of course still cautious and will just focus on the next game against Cardiff and quite rightly so, because a defeat would see the Cherries drop potentially as low as third if Watford win and if there is a winner in the Middlesbrough v Derby match or if Boro at least get a point from that game and AFCB lose. So yes, AFCB are top and some teams are starting to drop off the pace a little but there are plenty of chances to trip up and there are two massive games just around the corner that could define AFCB's season.

Eddie is keen to keep the Cherries ahead of the pack.

The Cherries need to keep the pressure on now and just hope that the wins keep them in first. A top six finish is looking very likely now and hopefully the cherries can soon make it look like a top two finish is even more likely. We want those smiles to still be on everyone's faces come the start of May. UTCIAD!
