What does Eddie see in Glenn Murray?

There are several news reports led by South London Today linking AFC Bournemouth with a £3.5m bid this afternoon for Crystal Palace's experienced striker - Glenn Murray. The 31 year-old has not found regular football at Selhurst Park with form of Dwight Gayle and Marouane Chamakh. A loan spell at Reading saw him bag eight goals from 18 games last season but Murray is best known for his heroics at Brighton where he netted 53 goals in 118 appearances.

It was the 2012-13 season when Murray is remembered not only for his 30 goals in the Championship but also for that semi-final when he suffered a horrendous knee injury playing for Palace against his former Brighton club that point him out of the game for nine months. Murray still managed to return to the game and score goals for Palace in the Premier League so it was a bit of a surprise when he was loaned out to Reading last January. AFCB were said to be interested in the striker then as well but moved for Kenwyne Jones instead in the end.

Murray might not be the most dynamic of strikers in his movement, but he knows where the net is and he has scored at just about every level of the game that he has played at. Eddie Howe is certainly looking to bring in another front man and while the likes of Rickie Lambert, Dwight Gayle, Jordan Rhodes and even Dimitri Berbatov (I know complete rubbish) have been suggested targets there is plenty of weight to the belief that Murray would play a reasonable supporting role if the Cherries suffered early injuries in their Premier League campaign. Good in the air and in and around the box, if Murray could add 10 or more goals to the Cherries tally it might mean the difference between mid-table safety and battling it out to stay up.

  1. Murray wasn't kept out by the form of chamakh or Gayle... Neither of them really played either!! He would be afcb's best striker... Easy.

  2. Our Glenn is also best known for the 31 goals he scored in our promotion season than anything he did with the weed.

  3. I think you need to have an appreciation of what Murray's strengths to make a decent critique of him........This article is not only factually inaccurate but also misses the point of what Murray can do........Murrays strengths often go without comment....he is a master at buying a free kick whether that be in the air or getting tight and rolling his defender.........set pieces are guaranteed with Murray and often can be the difference in a side finding goals difficult to get.........he is also a fantastic mover in the box especially over 5 yards and is also excellent at getting something on a cross.......he is a nuisance........he is not blessed with great pace, he is not the most natural of finishers....but he is a real asset full of craft and guile and experience and know how....the cherries would do a great deal worse than sign Murray.......as a Palace fan I do not wish for him to leave

  4. The best way to describe Muzza, is as a very unwelcome wasp at a picnic trying to be enjoyed by a group of defenders... This honest & hardworking forward, still has two or three seasons left in him at the top level... his footballing intelligence is so akin to that of Teddy Sherringham's, a gift that can't be taught... I have no doubts at all, that given the chance, Muzza, will repay the team with at least fifthteen goals & numerous assists over the course of a season, providing he is given the chance to play every week. That's not to mention the fouls that Muzza will draw out of the opposition all day long with his clever play. A true asset & a great ambassador... STAY WITH US MUZZA!!!
