Adam Smith ignites Cherries' season

The Cherries needed something special to get their season headed back in the right direction after the international break. While the Swansea result as a help, the atmosphere at the Vitality stadium was like nothing I have heard before when Adam Smith picked his spot and rifled in a 25 yard belter to beat Tim Howard from 25 yards out with 10 minutes to go of normal time.

The sound of that ball thumping in off the post had everyone looking totally gob smacked. How did he do that? Tom Howard could only watch the ball scream past him and find its intended target. It was a thunderbolt and it is probably the moment when the Cherries really announced that they are in the Premier League and are really going to battle to stay there. There was defiance in the strike and a real quality about how Adam brought the ball under control calmly, while all us Bournemouth fans were screaming at him to shoot.

Luckily Adam just took aim and hit the perfect shot. It was such a great strike that it brought real belief in the team that they could still get something from the game. It was a special moment and something that just happens sometimes when players trust their sixth sense to have a go at the spectacular. It reminded me of when Harry Arter smashed in a goal against Middlesbrough last season, because it came out of nothing. It was just an individual moment when a player relied on his technique and shut out everything else.
Adam Smith has always been in the background
but now he is starting to make a name for himself.
While AFCB may decide to have goal of the season all to themselves this season with rockets from Adam Smith, Matt Ritchie and Callum Wilson already among the picks of the best goals scored, there is plenty of time for the Cherries to squeeze a few more special strikes in there. There is no doubt that the players are enjoying their football at the moment as goals like Adam's just don't happen if a side is not feeling confident, and I just hope the players can take those qualities into the match against Chelsea knowing that they are a team that have good technique and quality to score against the very best teams.
