Much of AFC Bournemouth's good form has been helped by the transformation of Josh King. As an out and out striker he has not been prolific in front of goal, but his all round game of leading the line and getting amongst the centre backs to unsettle them has been sensational. The coaching staff at the Cherries have worked with Josh and given him the template on which to build his performances and the change has been quite startling in what he now offers the team.
I'm really pleased for Josh as he comes across as a hard working lad that only wants to try hard for the team and the fans. It has not been easy for him to know that he would have to change his game and use his pace in a more effective role for the team by playing where Callum Wilson played, but he has risen to that challenge and is starting to now pick up plenty of plaudits from those that can see that he has power, strength and the knowledge to make runs that are hurting defenders.
When Josh holds the ball up and makes his fast turns that get defenders facing their own goal, he moves the whole team up and gets AFCB on the front foot. It's okay to have pace but it is the timing of those runs and the need to look up and use the ball well when under pressure that we are now seeing from him. He now has his first goal at Dean Court this season and he'll be hoping to go on a run of games where he gets on the score sheet. Even if he does not find the net himself, he is making holes in defences and it's creating opportunities for others. I think Josh is winning over a lot of the fans who were not sure about him at the start of the season.
He is certainly one of the players that has shown his desire to improve and he has grown in his performances. To keep Glenn Murray on the sidelines is no mean feat and I have no doubt that we have not yet seen the best from Josh King.
Later today I should have another article out on the Shoot Blog site it looks at AFC's survival credentials and whether the pundits have got it very wrong this season.
