The headline words of Eddie Howe were certainly true. AFCB have lost a lot of points and especially at home, but to win a derby match is what mattered almost as much as the vital points that are a big step towards staying up.
Eddie Howe was very pleased with the night's work. "It was all about us and I was so pleased tonight.... The supporters really backed us and we gave them something to cheer," he said... "Every win needs to be treasured."
I was myself pleased when Southampton only played three at the back as the way the Cherries play with their wing backs there was always the possibility that they could overload the Saint's and that is how it worked out.
"We caused them problems in the wide areas," said Eddie. Indeed, it was such a problem for the Saints that they had to change the system mid-way through teh first half. The balance of their side was awkward and the Cherries took full advantage.
I'd agree that the free kicks that led to the games were soft, but AFCB wanted the ball more and they were first to the deliveries both times. AFCB might not have been at their fluent best, but they were hungry for the points and the win. It could have been different if Charlie Austin had taken his early chance or Pelle had steered his late effort on target, but it looked like not even a Juggernaut would have got passed Artur Boruc last night.
The table looks very good, but let's hope it will look even better after laying Newcastle at the weekend.
