How good is Josh King? I am starting to reassess my opinion on him. While he has been playing often through the pain barrier and getting used to his new role as a number nine instead of a winger or a number 10 he has found a scoring rhythm that is now taking him clear in the club's scoring chart.
It is no surprise that Eddie is not hurrying to get Callum back when he has a player who is already in fine form and exceeding expectations up font. It is not just the goal scoring though, which is now four in his last six matches, Josh is more lively in chasing down opponents and winning possession for the Cherries high up the pitch. His strength is definitely better than we saw early season and was demonstrated with how he was still giving his all at 90+3 minutes in the last game against Liverpool. Despite having not scored on several other chances, his aim was still to try and beat Danny Ward and he had a lot to do when Surman pumped his long ball up field to the striker.
It is not a guaranteed success for Premier League sides to dip their recruiting fingers in the Championship and pull out a goal machine, but the Cherries are starting to get more adept at doing this with Callum Wilson, Lewis Grabban and Benik Afobe also on the books having played most of their careers in the lower levels. The club has never been so well equipped with young strikers and I'm expecting Josh to start doing some great things for his national side as well as for the Cherries.
While any combination of the current crop of AFCB strikers, and I include Glenn Murray and Junior Stanislas in that, is a powerful option for Eddie Howe it has been a season where such options have been severely limited. AFCB have ended up at this situation with a great pool of talent and yet Eddie Howe has not had much chance to pick the striking duos that he might have if things had been different on the injury front. What can't be denied though is that Josh King has been the forward that has stuck to his task and is finally getting the rewards for his persistence and his constantly improving abilities. I am not sue how much better Josh can get but it is going to be fun watching what he does for AFCB in the future.
