The striker who was scoring for fun just two seasons ago with AFCB has found it hard going to find much form in the Premier League with Norwich or AFCB. Lewis Grabban has the talent to be a regular starter for the Cherries, and yet I think it would be a surprise for most fans to see him take one of the forward positions and make it his own in the first few games of the season. You never know what is round the corner though, and Lewis could be the main man again very soon again if he really wants to improve himself.
Lewis may not be the first pick for Eddie to lead the Cherries out come 14th August but he could be come a few matches into the season, even if you might say Wilson, King and Afobe are ahead of him at the moment. While each of these strikers has pace and have scored in the Premier League none of them have scored so many goals at that level to be supremely confident that they will be the top scorer for the club. In pre-season we have seen all these strikers score at least one goal, but none of them have been in truly stunning form and now they also have Lys Mousset waiting to grab his chance as well.
So Lewis Grabban can feel that his status might have slipped somewhat since he moved to Norwich City. Eddie Howe though still believes he can restore his presence in this team or he would not have gone back for him last January. There are many other strikers AFCB could have looked to choose, but Lewis was wanted back and he has had a good six months to forget about his problems at Norwich and to get back to concentrating on his football. I don't believe we saw the best of Lewis Grabban at the end of last season. He has been low on form and searching for answers in front of goal, and so when he scored against Portsmouth a couple of weeks ago I just wanted him to go and get another. You can't beat that feeling of scoring as a striker and AFCB need at least one of the five strikers I've mentioned to go on a run of scoring.
If that happens to be Lewis, I will be very happy to see it. AFCB need to make a success of as many players as they sign as possible, and if Lewis has become a forgotten man he might just find that sticking a few goals away could transform his relationship with the players and the fans. AFCB need to kick on this season and Lewis Grabban is one of the players that still has a lot to offer. Eddie and Jason will be desperate to try and unlock that forgotten potential.

Can't see him making the substitutes bench never mind the first team..fallen down the pecking list..am and not sure why we bought him back again....whilst it seems that we will start with KIng and Wilson up front..I think Afobe is in a better place than Wilson who looked out of it at Reading..and dare I say a pound or two overweight....fortunately its not my problem
ReplyDeleteNorwich fan with white flag, sadly we never saw this best you mention of Grabban. He was good at championship level but when it came to premiership he looked way out of his depth, making schoolboy mistakes missing chance after chance. Embarressingly at times. He had the look of a guy not wanting to play or even be here. Which split the fans into "a for and against" He further endeared himself, over storming out of a hotel when not selected for a cup game. I always felt he thought himself slightly better than others, he clearly had problem in the squad as it displayed itself more than once on the field.
ReplyDeleteFor me there was no where for him to turn only back to the coast, which he clearly wanted despite apologises and words to the contrary in local press. He had lost any support from the fans
