First Premier League hat-trick is huge boost for Josh King

Being on target didn't seem that easy for Josh King when he stepped up to take his penalty against West Ham last Saturday. We've all missed a penalty  our time, but how many of us have recovered to score their first Premier League hat-trick in the same game?
Josh King is in top form.
That is the remarkable belief that Josh has to be a success at AFCB. While the players always say it does not matter who gets the goals, it is evident from interviews that Josh wants to score as many as he can in targeting four in the games against West Ham and Swansea. Hopefully, he can get more than one against the Swans to add to his total which is now seven in his last nine games. It was important that Josh or Benik started to get some regular goals, if AFCB were to pull themselves back away from the bottom three and now Josh must have a real sense that he will be the top goalscorer for AFCB this season.

It is not often that AFCB get hat-tricks with the last one also coming against West Ham from Callum Wilson last season. Josh's three goals were all from inside the box and it's testament to his improving finishing. The first goal he scored was by far the most impressive in flipping the ball over Jose Fonté in such a small space, and finishing astutely with his left on the volley. He has a good ability to hustle and bustle for the ball in and around defenders, and I think he often gets the bounce of the ball as he puts in challenges where other tend to stand off.

Keeping Josh fit has also been a problem in the past but this season we have not seen so many hamstring injuries from him. He is becoming hot property and having won player of the month in February he is on course to make a good go at winning it again in March. The three goals will certainly help him feel that he can score at anytime in a game, and it's just what Eddie Howe needs in the upcoming games.

  1. The temptation might to replace Afobe with another midfielder, but then King might not get the same space and opportunities. 4-2-4 seems to be in Bournemouth's DNA, but requires wingers to work back in midfield and defence if it is to have any chance in premier league. Also requires full-backs to keep more compact - as they managed to do against Hammers.

  2. King was superb and caused West Ham problems all day. I think he has been the player of the year. Wonder if anyone had him in the top ten goal scorers this year?
