What's happening with Surman's contract talks?

The time is quickly ticking away on the new contract for Andrew Surman who looks to be very close to running his contract out at AFCB, as mentioned by the Daily Mirror. Having seen him go up to Umbro and be a central figure in looking at the new kit design, and being very much part of the club's vision I would expect to hear something announced soon on Surman's position.
Surman should get a contract extension by the end of the month.
To let him go on a free transfer to another club would seem unlikely as no problems appear to exist between the club and player who has still been wearing a brace on his left knee. But next season it may be harder for Surman to play 22 games as he did in 2016/17 and if Lewis Cook is to take more games it is Surman that is likely to make way for the England U21 star.

Many of the prized Bournemouth players that come to the end of their playing career end up as part of the backroom team at the club and Surman is a player that could well fit that bill. His metronomic passing style is a quality that I am sure Eddie Howe would like to see him pass on to other Bournemouth players - you learn from the best and Surman's quality is to make difficult passes look very easy indeed.

AFCB may feel comfortable about what they are able to offer Surman in terms of a contract extension and as a vice captain the player is well respected and a senior member of the squad who knows the club inside out. His next contract could be shorter than he has had in the past, perhaps giving him two-years, but I think the fans would want to see that contract or even better one signed fairly soon as many of us are not expecting to start the new season without having such an important squad member signed up to play a few more matches at Dean Court.

In other news, AFCB are reported to be in talks with Blackburn Rovers over signing winger Conor Mahoney, 20, according to SkySports.

HITC - What's the link between Leicester City's plans for the King Power and AFCB's original ideas for developing Dean Court?

News article update: Andrew Surman has confirmed in the press that he has signed a two-year extension to his contract this summer taking him to the Summer of 2019.

  1. it appears that Surman has another two years on his contract, although there wasn't an announcement
