AFCB get the penalty decisions at Stoke

There was much debate on Match of the Day with Jermain Jenas and Phil Neville giving their opinions on the Stoke City penalty appeals against Bournemouth. I don't agree with their views but they are right in that Bournemouth tread a tight line between giving a penalty away at times and some of the challenges are a bit needless if they just thought about things a bit more.

Stanislas was confident to take responsibility when it came to the penalty.

The biggest call that Lee Probert had to make was probably the Adam Smith tackle on Jesé towards the end of the game. The challenge had to be made and resulted in a corner to Stoke. While Smith did not get a great deal of contact on the ball, if it all, the challenge was clumsy and could have resulted in a penalty. But just because Bournemouth had a penalty in the first half it was almost as if Stoke fans felt they were owed one themselves in the second half.

I actually thought the Asmir Begovic incident when he left his foot up against Choupo-Moting was more dangerous and would be a penalty. The mad thing is there was no need for Begovic to leave his leg out stretched and I think their was a bit of intent to stop Choupo-Moting, even when Begovic already had the ball.

Stoke fans were after penalties all afternoon though. The challenge Jordan Ibe made on Pieters in the first half when the two players went down together. It was another challenge that was perhaps a bit misguided in that Pieters was running out of the box and it would have been safer to challenge when the ball had left the box.

Bournemouth had not won a penalty though before the Stoke game and it was about time they got a decision in a game. They now have a player who has put one away confidently as well so may be the penalty issues are starting to go in Bournemouth's favour once again.
