Marc Pugh must be sitting in his favourite chair at home wondering what he has to do to score. He was everywhere on the pitch last Saturday in his efforts to get Bournemouth a league goal, but just came up short as so many of his team-mates also did.
The second opportunity he had a few minutes later was an equally good chance and one where Pugh would normally make the keeper work, but he pulled it well wide and his disbelief was clear for all to see. I guess Pugh has not been given as much game time this season as he might have wished, and like all the players he is feeling the pressure to get the results so every miss seems magnified. I don't mind that he shot though as too often we see AFCB players not prepared to shoot, but try and make that one extra pass.
Callum makes his return AFCB's U21s won 3-2 in the Premier League Cup against Norwich with Callum Wilson coming back from injury in his first game. Damien Hill who was at the game comments that Benik stole the headlines Callum looked okay. Callum had a couple of chances to score. He could have run down channels a couple of times and everyone wanted to see him sprint, but every time turn back inside. So we didn't get to see him at speed running at a defender or a ball over the top, Whereas Benik played well in attack one-on-one in the box and was strong and scored from it. Charlie Seaman played well at right back and unlucky not to score Emerson played okay, but didn't boss the midfield like Lewis Cook did last week.

There were a few tricks from Pugh as he danced his way into the box, but I see a much more direct Pugh these days trying to get a shot away rather than showboat his skills. He has found out what works in the Premier League and he doesn't have the time to beat players two or three times. He has to adjust himself quickly to get a good balance and hit his shot early. We saw it demonstrated when the ball came off the bar from Defoe's early attempt on goal. Pugh only had one thing on his mind, to hit the target and he probably did only Danny Simpson got in the way.

I thought that Marc was perhaps on the pitch a bit longer than he needed against Leicester. He was blowing a bit before the 69th minutes when he was replaced by Ibe, but he had done his job. The early moments he creates with Daniels will always be something that other teams fear. Pugh is a player that you will always get an honest return from and he seems to have shaken off his early season problems now. Hopefully he can have another productive season.
