Boxing Day drama earns AFCB a dramatic point against West Ham

Match Description
AFCB 3 v 3 West Ham United
26 December 2017
Attendance: 10,596

This was what you call a Christmas cracker. Bournemouth entertained and West Ham also had a lot to do with the excitement with an end to end match. With nine minutes to go Bournemouth were 2-1 up having come from behind when, in the heavy rain,  Begovic presented Arnatovic with a Christmas present to make it 2-2. When Marko Arnautovic scored a late goal to put West Ham 3-2, that should have been that, but after a long talk between assistant referee and step in referee Bobby Madley, Bournemouth were awarded an added time equaliser when Aké headed across goal and the ball went in off Callum Wilson's arm. You could not make it up.

Eddie Howe brought Simon Francis back into the starting line up, while Jack Simpson dropped to the bench. Lewis Cook returned to the starting line up instead of Harry Arter and Josh King returned to the starting line up in place of Jermain Defoe.
AFCB and West Ham serve up a fantastic Christmas game.
Match Description
Bournemouth lined up with a back four with Adam Smith taking on the role of left back. Fraser won an early free kick from Zabaletta. A glancing header just flashed across goal and a corner was awarded. Francis headed on to the roof of the net.

Lanzini had a great chance to nip in at the other end but Lewis Cook got in the way. West Ham have a corner and Collins heads in at the near post to make it 0-1. Francis was well behind his man and the Hammers are ahead on seven minutes.

Francis wins a free kick in his own half. Wilson now fouls Kouyaté with an arm in the face. King takes knock from Obiang. Fraser has the beating of Zabeleta and is tripped again. Wilson gets a shot off but it's right at Adrián.

Wilson plays a ball in from the right and King can't finish and puts it wide of the left post! 16 minute gone it should be 1-1, but it's a let off for West Ham. West ham now win a corner, that one is straight out though.

Adrián comes out in front of Wilson. Francis is beaten by Masuaku and Ayew puts a great chance wide from six yards. That should have been in as well! It stays 0-1 after 21 minutes.

Great tackle from Adam Smith on Zabaleta and King puts another chance wide! Wilson was pulled back there and West Ham get away with one. Ibe blocked, another shot from Adam Smith is tipped over, very central. Corner to Bournemouth.

Fraser puts the ball in and Adrián punches away. Francis gives a free kick away after going through on Masuaku. Fraser is now sandwiched. Bournemouth need to get him on the ball more as West Ham can't cope with him. The ball drops kindly to Gosling and it's 1-1 on 29 minutes. Aké was being held down as well.

High foot by Francis on Kouyaté. It's a yellow card. Francis had his eyes on the ball and did not see the player but he's caught him right in the face. That caused a right ruck with several players getting involved and security.

Adam Smith draws a foul from Zabaleta who is carded. All Smith did was to cut inside on his right to pick the foul up. Bournemouth are chasing in midfield, but can't force a mistake from West Ham.

Ibe now gets fouled by Obiang. Adam Smith makes a pull back but it's cleared. Fraser has a shot blocked and Francis on the right crosses too deep. Adam Smith gives a foul away in West Ham's half on Ayew. Ibe still trying to go through players rather than around them loses the ball.

West Ham come forward and the shot from Lanzini is wide. Gosling gives the ball away in the middle but the cross come shot is running out of play. That was too casual from Gosling. Steve Cook wins a free kick off Arnautivic.

It's over everyone. It's bobbling around the box and King's header goes straight to the keeper with no power. Four minutes of added time are being played and Steve Cook puts a long shot over.  Half time 1-1.

Second half
Arnautovic come forward and Begovic catches the ball at his near post. Lewis Cook wins the ball well but West ham turn it over. King gives the ball away next. Lewis cook now runs in to a group of West Ham players. Bournemouth are not doing well at keeping the ball.

Adam Smith on the left and Wilson who shoots just past the post.  West ham wins a corner off Josh King, but nothing comes of it. Lewis cook wins the ball of Arnautovic well. Shot from Lanzini goes wide with Lewis Cook getting a deflection in. Ibe had given the ball away.

Play is pulled back for a foul by Collins on Gosling, poor referring with Bournemouth on a break with Fraser. Creswell gets booked for pulling back Callum Wilson. Ibe takes it and it's a corner. Lewis Cook puts it back in the box and Aké scores 2-1 on 57 minutes, neat left foot finish from about eight yards out.

Fraser wins the ball but the cross goes out. The crowd is up for this now. West Ham sub Obiang is off for Andy Carroll and Ayew is replaced by Hernandez. Fraser fouls Zabaleta. Begovic is out quickly ad judges the bounce well off a West Ham header.

Wilson s in behind but Ibe was like a statue. Lewis Cook into Gosling, quick shot at the near post and the keeper makes a save, corner. It's another corner won by Francis. Aké puts the header into the side netting.

King comes off for Afobe to come on after 65 minutes. Bournemouth are playing well now and go to the other end and did Collins slide in with his had? Eddie Howe was asking for a penalty, not given.

Francis and a good shot from Ibe comes off Adrián's legs! Afobe gives a free kick away, but AFCb break. Wilson out to Fraser. Francis Gosling and Wilson goes down.

Ibe slips and loses the ball. Hernandez not offside ad his header to Arnautovic is a good one, but Arnautovic shoots wide on 70 minutes. Lewis cook gets booked.  Begovic gets up well. Francis keeps on his feet well and crosses, Fraser puts it wide of the right post by an inch. So close.

Wilson is pushed to the floor by Ogbonna. Ibe with the free kick on 73 minutes. Another free kick to Bournemouth. Steve Cook is down in the box.

After a long delay, Steev Cook is okay. Ibe loses the ball. Break AFCB attack. Cross by Wilson is cut out though. Fraser in to Afobe and the keeper puts it out for a corner.

West Ham sub Zabaleta for Rice on 78 minutes. Aké gets a yellow card for holding. Shot comes in froom Carroll and well saved by Begovic down to his left and keeps hold of the ball. Ibe gets ready for a shot and Adrián has to put  save in fro another corner.

Fraser puts in a big tackle and Begovic slips and Arnautovic gets a present 2-2. The clearance went all of two metres and Arnautovic makes it all square on 81 minutes.

Adam Smith now clears and Wilson wins a free kick. Header from Wilson goes out for a goal kick. Afobe comes forward, but it's a goal kick.

Marc Pugh comes on for Ryan Fraser on 87 minutes. Bournemouth have a free kick.  It's a yellow card for Ogbonna trying to push the ball back. Ibe smashes the shot way over.

Gosling puts in Ibe, back across goal but it's cleared. Masuaku down the left beats Francis and it's over to the far post, Hernadez shoots and Begovic saves but Arnautovic has made it 2-3. Aké just a bit slow to get to Arnautovic - absolute disaster.

Ibe and Francis on the right can't get the cross in. Six minutes added on. The ball goes in from Aké and the flag is up. Was Wilson offside? It's 3-3. It went in off Wilson's arm from what we can see.

AFCB come again. Smith on the byline but cleared. Free kick to West Ham. Bournemouth have a throw deep in the West Ham half. Aké out to Pugh. Gosling. It's full time 3-3.

Eddie Howe is finding it hard to pick up points in December.
Summary
An epic match but no winner. AFCB were lucky in the end to be given the equaliser. However, Bournemouth will have feel they did enough to win several games with this performance but an unlucky slip by Begovic let West Ham back in and they looked like odds on to win it until Aké and Wilson fashioned a controversial equaliser. One point is really not enough for Eddie Howe and he'll be very disappointed with two points dropped at home even if they could have lost the game. A point keeps Bournemouth in the bottom three, but they are scrapping now.

  1. 8 out of 10 for the referee! When have you seen a worse one?

  2. He was a late replacement, booked a lot of players and yet ended the game with 11 players still on the pitch for both sides and helped create a flowing match despite the free kicks. He did everything he could to try and get the final decision right by speaking to his assistant referee. We have had far worse at Dean Court.

    1. Had far worse than him? Funny, the last time we had a ref that was this poor he went by the name of Bob Madley. His fre kicks were very inconsistant as were his bookings. Bournemouth should of been down to ten and the final goal should not have stood.

  3. Bobby Madley 8/10 PMSL. Despite the fact the Bournemouth player should have seen red, he saved a point at the end with a decision totally wrong and all game gave West Ham nothing. He is not fit to ref at this level and should be relegated for the forseable. Absolute shocker.

  4. When a referee over rules his assistant despite having a far worse view of the incident and gets it wrong, changing the result of the game, that qualifies as a truly awful piece of refereeing, regardless of anyone’s opinion of the rest of his performance.

    1. But if their discussion was whether Wilson got a touch and they decided he didn't then it was the correct decision although replays proved they were incorrect. I had the same view as the lino and I thought Wilson missed it.
