It's great that Bournemouth play the game in manner which is pleasing to they eye but they have to also do the less pretty things well at times and clearing a ball that gets pumped up field is just something that has to be dealt with. Perhaps it's not complacency but just the novelty of getting in front that made Bournemouth freeze when they had taken the lead against West Ham. Whatever the reasons, you can bet that every fan will be watching intently next time AFCB get a goal up in a game.
I wondered when Lanzini went off if Hernandez was going to ruin Bournemouth's day. I though Lanzini had been so good in previous weeks and Hernandez had been out of form. But you know how sometimes the all just goes to certain players like a magnet and Hernandez certainly needed a goal so I kind of thought - yeah, it had to fall to him there didn't it.
Two points lost or a point gained? I'd favour the latter, but I would loved to have heard some of the language in the dressing room when the Bournemouth lads went back there after the game. They knew they blew it and will be incensed by that. Still they can also play better and I'm hoping that the week they have off will give them the courage to do better next time a ball is punted up near the edge of their area.

Bournemouth have struggled to get in front in games of late and it was just really pleasing to see the side having not played that well go up one-nil against West Ham. It happens regularly to Bournemouth that they play well and find themselves a goal down so it was quite strange to see that AFCB can do that too. But did they think the job was done when Ryan Fraser scored? Frankly, I don't think so. The players did challenge for the ball. They just didn't get a head or a foot in when they needed to and sometimes the bounce goes the oppositions way.

ReplyDeleteIt does seem to reflect the season as a whole so far. A little slip up vs. West Ham, massive extra time against Man. City, so overwhelmingly better than Leicester, Niasse's late goals, some bad calls, etc. etc. We have had a few things go our way to be sure, the late goal against Newcastle and the "touch of magic" come to mind. But we really could be good for a handful additional points, and the table would look a lot different for us. That said, I remain fully confident that we will stay up.
