Eddie Howe couldn't wait to express his contentment with Jermain Defoe when he was asked about how the striker still managers to score important last minute goals. Jermain has now scored 15 goals in the 90th minute or later in the Premier League which four more than any other player. Somehow I don't think the Watford goal will be his last either as he closes on the top six goal scorers in the Premier League.
Whether Defoe is best used as a super sub or should be given more time on the pitch is something that Howe must start to consider. To have such a talent waiting to come on is somehow a bit of a waste, if he could get the opening goals of games to put Bournemouth in front. Defoe has been getting back to fitness and as Howe said he has had a good couple of weeks since the WBA game in training, so perhaps now Howe will think about making a change up front.
Defoe makes headlines whenever he scores and if he does get a run in the team don't count him out of being a late inclusion in Southgate's World Cup squad. The point is you know that when the ball ins in the box and Defoe is around he could make something of a chance as his reactions must be among the quickest in the Premier League. He is a live wire and just waiting to hit the ball in the back of the net.
Scoring goals clearly still give him a great buzz and if you have a striker that is lethal you play him. I don't care how old Defoe is or how many times he has done it before. He still has goals in him and if Howe can get the team to play better around Defoe I see no reason why Bournemouth can't go up another level in their performances.

Jermain was bubbly to talk to in his post-match interview. He felt he was going to score on the day if he got on the pitch and he wasn't going to worry if he had to wait a while for a good opportunity. When it came he could have gone with his head or tried to hit the ball instantly, but by letting the ball come across him he made his shot a lot easier in the end and Orestis Karnezis didn't really have much hope of the ball hitting him.
