Does Wilson need a rest?

Callum Wilson has been finding it quite tough to hit the target in the last few games. He had some great chances against Crystal Palace but just didn't keep calm enough when the opportunities came to slot home. The best chance was probably in the first minute and it takes something special sometimes to react swell so early in the game, when the ball lands at your feet in front of goal. Had Callum been on a rich vein of scoring it might have been different.
Why are the goals not going in for Callum?
Scoring goals is easy when they come to you with plenty of time to pick your spot, but you don't get that often in the Premier League and I believe Wilson is just snatching at chances at the moment. It's easy to criticise and want Callum to do better, but he perhaps needs a bit of a rest to get him fully concentrated again and to just take the pressure off a bit. If he is used as a sub, he has a little while to assess the opposition on the day and see where he might sneak a goal in.

The match against Crystal Palace was a rare chance to see Wilson with Defoe up front. While the speed of Bournemouth's forwards was evident, it was not that often that Defoe had the all at his feet to score. Wilson though had three good chances in the first half and if he had taken one I'd expect Bournemouth might well have won the game. Eddie Howe will surely look at Callum's form now. Howe does have a lot of injuries but with Mousset now looking more comfortable at Premier League level, Lys must be getting closer to making more starts.

Whether a rest would be good for Wilson is the question Howe will have to answer. There are only a few games left and while Wilson is no doubt keen to play every minute, is it good to see him battling with himself if he is not scoring? We saw him annoyingly punch the ball when he missed a chance against Palace and it just might be that his mind is not quite in the right place at the moment. But if he just sits out one start, he might be in a better place when he next gets on.
