Nathan Aké has been a constant at Bournemouth since last summer when he signed a permanent deal. His talent was evident to Eddie Howe well before than though having spent the loan period of August 2016-Jan 2017 at the club. Having won all the awards for player of the year last season, it may seem difficult to see how Aké can improve further but it is important for him and AFCB that he does improve.
Bournemouth have brought in Diego Rico and Jack Simpson could also get a few games so things can always be changing in the back line. So if this happens, it will be important for Aké to be the rock on which the Cherries can rely upon. Aké is no longer the new boy but a potential leader and he should get that kind of respect after what he did last season.
Aké will be disappointed that his Netherlands team has not played at the World Cu but he has to keep his form going forward to ensure he keeps his place in his national side. He will need some aspirations to better what he did last season. Having left Chelsea, he has come down a level to play for AFCB, but it doesn't mean he should sit back and feel happy just because he is playing. He'll know already that AFCB fans want to win things and improve and he can be a major part of that.
I don't mind if Aké does not score many goals. It is keeping them out of AFCB's net that he has to get better at. There is room for improvement and if Aké gets better it should encourage other Bournemouth defenders to step up their game as well.
In other news, Sam Surridge has joined Oldham Athletic on a season-long loan. AFCB also played Amiens SC in a friendly behind closed doors winning 3-1.

Aké already shows a good reading of the game and even when he does not instantly pick up danger his speed will get him out of some problems. I do think he needs to have a season where he does not have so many changes in his defence partners, and he should already have a better understanding now that he has played a lot of games with Daniels, Francis, Steve Cook and Adam Smith.
