Much has been said about Callum Wilson and his two goal start to the season, especially after his solo effort against West Ham. Yet, he hasn't managed to follow that up by scoring more than one goal in a game and has been guilty of missing more than a couple of chances from good scoring positions. That is no doubt why he hasn't forced himself into Gareth Southgate's thinking for England.
Wilson is not a player that tends to suffer having missed a big opportunity. He missed a penalty against Cardiff but kept on playing. He had numerous chances against Everton and left it until late on to score. No matter how many missed chances, Howe seems to believe that Wilson is always capable of getting himself on the score sheet. Like many of Bournemouth's players though, we need to see more consistency from him. The salute needs to be seen a bit more often as he gets into the best positions to score okay, but he has to hold his nerve better if he wants to become an international player.

The chance he had against Chelsea on the half hour was typical of the kind of ball in that he would expect to score from. But that could be the problem in that he thinks he is going to score before he has done the job, and that second or two of over confidence is perhaps enough to distract him from the job at hand. It is the main part of his game to score, so Wilson needs to be encouraged when it doesn't work out for him. Still, I hope Wilson has been using this international break to try and get some ruthlessness back into his finishing.

It is a shame that no Bournemouth players have made the call up to the first England squad of the season. Wilson is a raw talent that has a great opportunity to make a name for himself with Bournemouth high in the table, and Wilson having kept Defoe and Mousset on the sidelines. Still, for all the running power that we saw against West Ham and the deft finish against Everton, there is a nagging worry that when Wilson has time to think about the finish, he usually either hits the keeper or shoots wildly wide.
