Wilson's England call up is well deserved

I had a smile on my face when I saw that Callum Wilson had been given a call up the Gareth Southgate's squad. He has been so near before and if the FA can give Wayne Rooney an extra cap I couldn't see why someone like Wilson was being overlooked. But sense has prevailed and we can now eagerly wait to see if Wilson can got on the pitch against the USA or Croatia. The international break has suddenly become a bit more interesting.
Wilson's 50th AFCB goal came against man Utd at the weekend.
With a 28-man squad there is a still a lot for Wilson to do to get a cap, but there is no point calling him up if Southgate is not prepared to see how he can perform in an England shirt. I am sure it is good news for Coventry City now that Callum is about to be an international player and I know I will feel really proud to see a Bournemouth player carrying the hopes of the nation.

It is further recognition that Bournemouth's players are getting to the point when they are seen as professionals that can rival the top players in the Premier League. It is also a massive moment for Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall and the rest of the coaching staff who have put time and effort into helping Callum achieve this ambition.

It may of course just be the start of call ups not only for Callum but perhaps one or two more members of Eddie Howe's squad this year. While Lewis Cook is probably the most likely to be on Southgate's radar, it should give an extra bit of confidence to all the English Bournemouth players that they can get noticed with this incredible start to the season.
