What can AFCB improve on in training?

Set plays provide a great opportunity to score at any level and AFCB could perhaps do with working on some more special moves during the break. Everyone must be well aware of the step over corner by now you would think but it still catches teams out. A bit of variety would be beneficial and I see no reason why Jason Tindall won't look at seeing if there are some extra pre-planned plays that can be worked on.

Pitman has been the player coming closest to scoring from the dead ball situations. While he missed a penalty against Wigan, he almost caught Carson scampering back after a quickly taken free kick. In the Watford Carling Cup game he also had his shot deflected by Bond onto the post. With a bit of luck, Brett could have been our lead goal scorer by now.

Even in the Doncaster game AFCB had a free kick that Charlie Daniels took that was aimed on a trajectory towards the far post that Pitman put away. There were other chances created in that match, but in the end it was decided on that solitary goal.

Time for the players get back on the training pitch after a couple of days off.
From my knowledge, the Cherries have not scored from a corner at all this season. We have brought in the likes of Elliott Ward to cause more confusion in the opposition's box but none of our centre backs have registered on the score sheet yet. Ward has certainly got himself into some good positions and almost hit the target against Doncaster.

Looking at our other centre backs I have not seen Steve Cook really get much of a chance to score so far this season despite him playing in most of the games. Tommy Elphick has been less able to get in many appearances yet.

With Tokelo Rantie adding to the forward line it will be of interest if he is a good header of the ball. I hope he gets a few days to work with the team before he puts on his shirt for AFCB. Working on set plays should also help the team think along the same lines and get them working for each other. For Tokelo he will need to get to know other players strengths quite quickly and its of course important that his team mates know what he likes when it comes to providing him with chances to score.

This should be a really busy week for the Cherries on the training field and I hope that off field happenings last week have not been too much of a distraction for everyone.
