AFCB's strike force is bang on target

It was not so long ago that the Cherries had trouble in shooting regularly enough and making their dominance in games really count. Those kind of performances are well behind this side now which is able to put sides away with one of the best striking partnerships in the league.

Callum Wilson is already making massive headlines which is outstanding when you consider it is his first season in the Championship. Unlike many of the front men AFCB have seen at the club I don't think the fans have too many doubts when Callum races through - we expect him to score more often than not. More importantly he has the mentality that makes him think he is going to score every time. Having missed a good opportunity in the Wigan match just before his first goal, he could have looked to wait for team mates when through again and yet it is just in Callum's nature to try and make a mends and smash the ball in the back of the net at the next opportunity.

You have to applaud Yann Kermorgant as well as he made his own chance in this game and used his strength well to get an advantage at the key moment for his goal. While Yann is perhaps still not quite at his best, he still keeps scoring and that is a good habit to have. That simply means there is more to come from him. Having been brought back into the side, Yann perhaps knows that he can't afford to drop his standards. I am not sure that swapping Brett and Yann has been good for the team, but if Brett is needed in the run in then at least he knows he has now really performed in the championship and can get goals. So the benefit of rotation up front may yet help AFCB further in the next few months.

Callum Wilson is really hot property now.

It was also perhaps a vote of confidence for the strikers that Eddie Howe has not brought any other strikers in, so no one has felt like they are being eased out. Tokelo Rantie still has a chance to get into the team and as long as the four strikers are eager to do well you can't really argue with Eddie Howe's policy. 

Yann is fighting hard to keep his place in the side.

It is not often that AFCB need individual performances to win games but the Wigan match was probably one of those games where we will look back at the end of the season and say, had Callum Wilson not been available, the game might not have gone the Cherries way. The test for him on Tuesday night is whether he and Yann can do it against one of the best outfits in the Championship.
