AFCB's potential new Messi raises questions

It was reported by the Bournemouth Echo that AFCB are closing in on the signing of the new Lionel Messi - Argentine wide man Juan Iturbe. Iturbe was thought to be on his way to Watford on loan, but has since been the subject of interest from the Cherries amongst others it would appear with the possibility of a loan deal before a permanent deal next season.

Iturbe currently plays for Roma in Italy and at 22 he is still in the early stages of his career.but he has already played at big clubs like Verona, River Plate and Porto. The quality of such a signing would be setting a new record for the Cherries if it happens.

Of course, it does beg the question that if Iturbe is now likely to come to the south coast for a £1.1m loan deal and £16m permanent move in the summer, as SkySports suggest, what does this mean for Matt Ritchie? If Eddie Howe is not selling a player then it is a substantial amount of money to spend on one player and yet looking at the situation with Luis van Gaal at Man Utd it is very questionable whether the targets the Red Devils have for January are very set in stone if the manager is under increasing pressure just to keep his job.

I'd hazard a guess that it is too big a gamble for AFCB to pay out £16m on the basis that they are 100 per cent confident of staying up this year even if they have started to take big strides in that direction. The money at the end of the season is gong to transform AFCB of course though if they do stay up. As fans we have not seen the club spend anything like that kind of money and doubling the transfer record would be quite a statement, especially when a player the quality of Charlie Austin was said to be beyond the club's reach back in October. What has changed? Are Peak6 investing more funds now having seen the improvement in the team's results in the last few weeks?

Something tells me that this is going to be one of the most exciting January transfer windows that the club has ever seen, even if signings have been played down in recent weeks.
