Francis unlucky to see red

Simon Francis has the unenviable record of being the last AFCB player to have seen red both this season and last, and now has another to add to his collection. As a defender you have to put yourself in positions where you may give away a penalty and there is always a good chance that if a tackle is mistimed or the opponent goes down the referee will point to the spot and send that last defender off.
Simon Francis will be delighted his sending off
did not result in a goal against the Cherries.
However, Simon Francis can rightly feel aggrieved about the decision of Andre Marriner who gave the decision looking from behind the incident rather than from the side where he may have come to a different conclusion. That is where you need the assistant linesman to be strong and say what he saw, but that rarely happens. Francis changed the direction of the ball and he'll feel unlucky, but you are not going to get all the decisions.

Francis will only have a one goal suspension. So Eddie Howe says there is no need to appeal with the FA Cup match up next and Simon deserves a rest. Having been the captain since Tommy Elphick has been out of the team, Francis will have to lose that honour for the next game and you could see his frustration at being sent off in hanging around by the half way line and watching on for a few minutes before being told to remove himself as he still had his AFCB shirt on.

Listening to Francis' post-match interview, he seemed more accepting of his fate than he might have been had the Cherries not drawn the game. He and Eddie have suggested that he'll be back for the next league game and he'll be hoping to put this game behind him then.

Red card update
The Bournemouth Echo has reported that AFCB will now contest the red card that Simon Francis received as it could his disciplinary record later in the season.
