AFCB - no rhythm, no points

Eddie Howe has talked about the team not finding it's rhythm in the last two games and it's a missing factor that only comes when Bournemouth are confidently going at sides thinking about tearing them apart rather than worrying about losing the ball. The Cherries are out of sorts and yet can turn things around very quickly if they acknowledge that the performances against Swansea and Burnley were short on excitement, short on quality and short of asking questions of the opposition.
Can AFCB find their rhythm?
It is almost as if the side is hoping that things happen of their own accord if the side retains possession, but you have to make decisions and be positive with the ball. Bournemouth are not looking to hurt teams at Dean Court by making things happen. There is too much delay and sorting out positions when on the ball rather than just going at teams, and off the ball the Cherries had moments in the Burnley match when concentration was very low.

When Bournemouth don't start games well they have been going into their shell. To some extent this happened at Swansea but they hung on well, even though they did not get into the game well and establish a platform early on which to build confidence. The start against Burnley was worse still with three early corners conceded. Any pre-match talk of putting Burnley on the back foot were quickly banished and the Cherries were struggling to get the ball out of their own half, let along find a rhythm.

Bournemouth needs some individuals now to stand up and take a lead. The big battles are still ahead and there is no crisis at the moment, but there is a need to find more pleasure in the performances. Losing to Burnley is no disgrace but losing without giving their keeper anything to do is disappointing and Burnley imposed their style of play without any problem from the start. It seems AFCB need something to go wrong or to enter the game scenario with 15 minutes to go before they pick up the pace, and Eddie Howe needs to find a solution to the slow starts.

  1. Attackers attack, defenders defend. One of our problems is having a small team and relying on bringing back height against set pieces and corners. Against Burnley it was ludicrous when Defoe came back into our penalty area. Push forward give the opposition something to think about in a counter attack. All I see happening is the out ball is quickly returned into the heart of our penalty box.

  2. The answer is easy.....change the playing personnel...start with Lewis Cook.....drop Arter...give Mahoney a try....
