Lewis Cook holds another England U21 trophy up high

The 2-1 win for England's U21 over Mexico in the Toulon tournament in France saw Lewis Cook win another trophy as an England captain. He was the experienced player that Aidy Boothroyd wanted to lead his young guns into battle and while Lewis may well have been ready to play for the senior team this summer, he will have done his reputation no harm at all.
Lewis Cook is a winner with England's U21s.
We might hope that Lewis is not the only England captain to hold a trophy up this summer, but by leading the U21 to success, Lewis has done everything he could have and the FA should be very impressed with the player's reaction to not going to the World Cup. He now has the feeling of winning tournaments running through him and it can only be of benefit to the Cherries. Lewis also won the second best player of the tournament, while Newcastle's Freddie Woodman was best keeper.

A future senior England captain he could well become and Lewis' next goal must be to break into that senior team on a regular basis. He has made the grade to play with the very best and his ambition is just what the Cherries need to go pressing for a higher Premier League finish in the coming seasons. To think that AFCB have Lewis for the next four years already under contract is reassurance that the Cherries are not happy at being just a Premier League side, but one that wants to attract the very best.

Lewis will have a bit of a break I am sure before he joins up for pre-season. He deserves a chance to recharge and enjoy what he has achieved in recent weeks and over the last season. Good things come to those who deserve it and Lewis is going to be a player that all England fans are going to start watching very closely at Dean Court. Pressure will come with the acclaim he has earned but Lewis seems able to cope with the weight of expectation. It seems hard to imagine it at the moment, but AFCB may well have one of England's brightest stars of the next decade under their wing.
