Bournemouth gets off to a winning start beating Blackburn 3-2

Jason Tindall's football seems to run under the matter of we'll score one more than you. This was certainly the case with this opening match of the season. Bournemouth took the lead on five minutes with Jack Stacey scoring from distance from a corner - a sublime finish. The lead didn't last the duration of the first half though, as Bradley Johnson struck a drive to level the scores on 42 minutes. It bounced in front of Travers who just didn't get to it well enough. Jefferson Lerma stroked Bournemouth back into the lead before Armstrong brought it back to 2-2 on 73 minutes. It was left to Arnaut Danjuma to score the winner on 84 minutes to give Jason Tindall his first league win. JT will be pleased with the win but should know that there is much more work to tighten up at the back.

Jack Stacey begins AFCB's 2020-21 season with a
spectacular first opening goal against Blackburn Rovers.

My guess line-up for AFCB was not too far off the mark. Diego Rico didn't make the starting line up as Adam Smith was preferred and Sam Surridge only made the bench with JT cautiously picking Chris Mepham to make three at the back instead of having two strikers. David Brooks was also left on the bench perhaps suggesting a move later this month. A 3-5-3 formation was very attacking for Bournemouth but left plenty of spaces for Blackburn to play their football.

Second half
There are no changes at half-time. Bournemouth won't be happy if they don't get a win in their first game. Steve Cook is carded for a bad foul. Amari'i Bell gets it to Bradley Johnson who goes close again.

Armstrong is offside. Armstrong misses narrowly to the left of the goal. Derrick Williams to Dolan, and he has missed to the left.

Summary
This was hardly a convincing win. Danjuma's strike four minutes from 90 minutes saved Bournemouth from asking some tough questions about the defence that had let in tow goals. The Cherries keep conceding whether it is the Premier League of the Championship and they'll need to improve at the back. Going forward they do seem more refreshed and are capable of taking games away from teams. Three points are three points and Bournemouth will get better. Blackburn had been well-organised, so Tindall will go away with plenty of positives.

Previous post on Cherry Chimes - No clues on AFCB line-up from JT - so who will he pick?

  1. Not the greatest performance, but as you say 3 points are three points. They are going to have to toughen up a bit. Definitely fewer fouls called than in the top division. Travers was poor, hope he can shake off that game. Danjuma looks quite the player.
