Stanislas gives Bournemouth a narrow 1-0 win over 10-man Wycombe

Match Report
AFCB 1 v 0 Wycombe Wanderers
15 December 2020
AFCB play out a tight win against 10-man Wycombe.

Bournemouth went top on goal difference having played a game more than Norwich City after this game. It was far from an easy night out though as returning keeper Ryan Allsop did well to keep Bournemouth out until the second half. The sending off of Alex Pattison tipped the game more in Bournemouth's favour and Junior Stanislas' goal, just after the hour, was surprisingly the only goal in a match in a game that had lots of chances. Wycombe might have got something from the game, but for another good performance by Asmir Begovic in Bournemouth's goal.

AFCB named an unchanged team for the first time this season, so it was a good second start for Jack Simpson this season. But on the subs bench there was the return of Diego Rico and Josh King.

Former Cherry Ryan Allsop lined up for Wycombe Wanderers in goal.

Match description
The Cherries attacked from the off with Solanke getting a save from Allsop with a header in the first few minutes and Steve Cook missing from the following corner.

Solanke saw another shot blocked on nine minutes as Bournemouth looked to break down Wycombe's five-man defence. McCleary did get Wycombe going forward after about eight minutes but Akinfenwa couldn't reach the cross.

Bournemouth are in control though and Kelly makes a good overlap and his pass finds Lerma who sees a shot deflected over on 16 minutes. Lewis Cook finds Billing who cuts inside but his shot is saved.
The first yellow card is for McCarthy who blocked Solanke. Brooks' curling shot goes over the bar. Lerma's cross for Solanke sees an overhead kick attempt but it goes wide.

Lewis Cook and Junior Stanislas have shots blocked. Wycombe finally win their first corner and must be glad just to get up the other end of the pitch. There's nothing to trouble Begovic yet though.

Junior Stanislas has a shot blocked. Billing goes close after a headed flick-on from Steve Cook, but it's saved. Lewis Cook is making things happen in the middle for Bournemouth. David Brooks assists Stansials, but Stanislas is blocked on the line by McCarthy.

Dominic Grape is subbed for Freeman.
In the second half, Wycombe come forward more with McCarthy having a shot blocked and Freeman forcing the first save from Begovic. Billing is yellow carded after Lewis Cook made a foul.

Stanislas shoots over. Sam Surridge comes on for Billing on 60 minutes. Wycombe are getting braver, as Freeman shoots wide from distance. Begovic has to make a great save from McCleary's shot and concedes a corner.

Alex Pattison is sent off! He fouled Lewis Cook. That could be just the incentive Bournemouth need. Jack Simpson is blocked making a header.

Brooks and Stanislas work their way in and Stanislas pokes the ball home to give AFCB the lead on 67 minutes. Oneydinma replaces Kashkett.

Bournemouth go close again from a corner, but Solanke fails to get it past Allsop. Solanke on the break crosses for Surridge who's touch sends it just wide.

Lewis Cook goes close with a drive from outside the box but Allsop saves. From the corner Sam Surridge has shot wide.

McCleary's cross finds Akinfenwa but his header is saved by Begovic. Horgan has replaced McCleary and Ikpeazu replaces Akinfenwa.
Bournemouth replace, Solanke, Lewis Cook and David Brooks, on come Josh King, Dan Gosling and Diego Rico.

Adam Smith puts in a cross and it comes to Lerma who shoots just over the bar. Wycombe are trying to get something from the game Ikpeazu has a shot blocked.

Horgan's cross is met by Wheeler who heads well, but over the left corner of the goal. Bournemouth have to defend the game out for five minutes of stoppage time.

Surridge holds up play well and gets a shot off that Allsop tips away. King crosses and Surrdige almost directs it goalwards. A corner to Bournemouth.

Summary
Bournemouth didn't find this easy at all. Wycombe not only defended well, they did show more of a goal threat second half. It was the sending off that turned the game and Bournemouth took full advantage. Sam Surridge is a player that Tindall will hopefully start using more, but it was Junior Stanislas that nabbed his fifth goal of the season to get the win. Another clean sheet will also please Tindall. I don't expect he'll mind Stanislas and Surridge having the odd word to each other, as he'll want the players to be wanting more than they showed in this game.
