The Disrupted Season (2019-20) is the second football book to be written by Peter Bell, author of the Cherry Chimes blog. The book charts what turned out to be an unprecedented 2019-20 Premier League season and a historic one for Eddie Howe and Bournemouth. Little did we know at the start of the season that it would be the start of a campaign that might not have even been completed.

Bournemouth was in its fifth season in the top flight and had become regular guests on Match of the Day. The red and black shirts were winning fans worldwide and Eddie Howe remained the longest-serving manager at the same club in all four divisions of the football pyramid. However, this season was like no other for the Cherries. The goals didn’t flow, the clean sheets were hard to come by and the injuries kept coming. While great wins against Manchester United and Chelsea kept Bournemouth reassured everyone that they were still capable of giant killings, getting out of the bottom three would require a massive effort come the New Year.
What nobody expected was for COVID-19 to strike and bring the league to a standstill for 100 days. Project Restart finally promised a summer of football, but with nine games to go, every point seemed like a tantalising step to safety. Bournemouth went chasing the points and took their challenge to stay in the Premier League to the very last game, knowing that even a win might not secure their safety.
