Bournemouth gets off to a winning start beating Blackburn 3-2

Jason Tindall's football seems to run under the matter of we'll score one more than you. This was certainly the case with this opening match of the season. Bournemouth took the lead on five minutes with Jack Stacey scoring from distance from a corner - a sublime finish. The lead didn't last the duration of the first half though, as Bradley Johnson struck a drive to level the scores on 42 minutes. It bounced in front of Travers who just didn't get to it well enough. Jefferson Lerma stroked Bournemouth back into the lead before Armstrong brought it back to 2-2 on 73 minutes. It was left to Arnaut Danjuma to score the winner on 84 minutes to give Jason Tindall his first league win. JT will be pleased with the win but should know that there is much more work to tighten up at the back.

Jack Stacey begins AFCB's 2020-21 season with a
spectacular first opening goal against Blackburn Rovers.

My guess line-up for AFCB was not too far off the mark. Diego Rico didn't make the starting line up as Adam Smith was preferred and Sam Surridge only made the bench with JT cautiously picking Chris Mepham to make three at the back instead of having two strikers. David Brooks was also left on the bench perhaps suggesting a move later this month. A 3-5-3 formation was very attacking for Bournemouth but left plenty of spaces for Blackburn to play their football.

Match description
Bournemouth gives away a free kick at the start. Adam Smith was the culprit. Lewis Travis then fouls Jefferson Lerma.

Blackburn gets the fist attack away with Armstrong shooting wide from distance on the left after a good pass from Travis.

Bournemouth comes forward and Lewis cook has an attempt from distance that just goes past the top corner after seven minutes. The Cherries are getting a foothold in the game with their first corner.

Danjuma wins a free kick. Mepham makes a foul. Lerma has conceded a corner to Blackburn. Bournemouth has had more of the possession and has settled in well to life in the Championship. Adam Smith is being fouled again.

Travers has a risky moment taking a back pass from Kelly. Junior Stanislas is fouled. Lewis Travis shot is blocked from outside the box. Bournemouth has a corner now. Stanislas takes and Jack Stacey has scored with a rocket from 25 yards off the post and in! Bournemouth has the lead.

The free kicks are mounting up. Lerma is getting stuck in but no cards yet. Lewis Cook wins a free kick. Danjuma gets taken down on the left-wing. Stanislas has ben fouled now.

Holtby has a shot from distance but not on target. Joe Rankin-Costello has a shot blocked. Bradley Johnson has hit a screamer from 35 yards and makes it 1-1. Travers is beaten on 42 minutes.

Solanke fouls. Stanislas shoots but high and wide.

Second half
There are no changes at half-time. Bournemouth won't be happy if they don't get a win in their first game. Steve Cook is carded for a bad foul. Amari'i Bell gets it to Bradley Johnson who goes close again.

Jefferson Lerma is in the ref's book for a bad foul. Jack Stacey wins a free kick. Lerma is there and makes it 2-1. Assist by Solanke and Lerma hit the shot well from outside the box to put Bournemouth back in front on 53 minutes.

Blackburn has a corner. Adam Smith to Stanislas shot blocked.

Dan Gosling is coming on for Lerma on 59 minutes. Danjuma through to Solanke, saved for a corner. Steve Cook, centre of the box has his shot saved, too.

Armstrong is caught offside. Gosling wins a free kick.

Rothwell replaces Rankin-Costello. Blackburn also sub Brereton and bring on Dolan on 68 minutes.

Armstrong shoots just wide of the top left corner. Bournemouth needs to be wary. Gosling fouls. A chance for Armstrong, he's stuck it away 2-2 on 73 minutes, left-footed shot.

Steve Cook concedes a corner. Nyambe misses from outside the box. Adam Smith fouls. Brooks is on for Mepham on 79 minutes. Mepham is injured.

Armstrong is offside. Armstrong misses narrowly to the left of the goal. Derrick Williams to Dolan, and he has missed to the left.

Danjuma has it and fires Bournemouth back into the lead 3-2. 84 minutes gone Come on hang on Bournemouth. Stanislas is subbed for Billing.

Evans replaces Travis on 86 minutes. Foul by Stacey. Adam Smith comes away with the ball and is fouled. Amari' i Bell has a shot wide. Corry Evans shot is wide. Hope Bournemouth can hold on.

90 minutes are up. Six minutes of added time.

This was hardly a convincing win. Danjuma's strike four minutes from 90 minutes saved Bournemouth from asking some tough questions about the defence that had let in tow goals. The Cherries keep conceding whether it is the Premier League of the Championship and they'll need to improve at the back. Going forward they do seem more refreshed and are capable of taking games away from teams. Three points are three points and Bournemouth will get better. Blackburn had been well-organised, so Tindall will go away with plenty of positives.

Previous post on Cherry Chimes - No clues on AFCB line-up from JT - so who will he pick?

Blackburn Rovers
1 Kaminski, 2 Nyambe, 26 Lenihan, 3 Williams, 17 Bell, 27 Travis (Evans 86), 10 Holtby, 4 Johnson
24 Rankin-Costello (Rothwell 58), 7 Armstrong, 20 Brereton (Dolan 68)

  1. Not the greatest performance, but as you say 3 points are three points. They are going to have to toughen up a bit. Definitely fewer fouls called than in the top division. Travers was poor, hope he can shake off that game. Danjuma looks quite the player.
