AFCB Player Profiles

In this section Cherry Chimes gives some information about the current AFC Bournemouth squad. It will give details on their performances this season and assesses their strengths and weaknesses - if any!

No 1: Artur Boruc
DOB: 20.2.80
Nationality: Polish
Contract: 1 year from May 2018

Twitter @ArturBoruc
The Polish keeper was perhaps a bit of a surprise loan signing by Eddie Howe in September 2014. The keeper is highly rated though having been Southampton's first team and having won many caps for Celtic and his country during his career. Having helped AFCB win promotion to the Premier League in May 2015, he became the first permanent signing of AFCB in the Premier League. Artur signed a new one year contract in April 2017 and a further one-year deal in May 2018. He was the fans' player of the season in 2016/2017, but didn't start a Premier League game in 2017/18.

No 12: Aaron Ramsdale
DOB: 14.05.88
Nationality: English
Contract: new long-term contract signed October 2019
Twitter @AaronRamsdale98On loan at Chesterfield until May 2018
Aaron signed in the January 2017 window from Sheffield Wednesday. He was an England youth international keeper a U18 and U19 and is in the England U21 squad in Toulon in the summer of 2018, having been on loan at Chesterfield. Was on loan at AFC Wimbledon in 2018/19. Aaron started teh 2019-20 season as AFCB's number one keeper.

No 42 Mark Travers
DOB: 18.05.99
Nationality Republic of Ireland
Contract: long term from July 2019

Twitter: @marktravers40
Mark Travers made his first team debut against Tottenham Hotspur on 4 May when he had an outstanding game make a series of first class saves against Spur's superstars to help Bournemouth earn their first win against Spurs 1-0. He is an international keeper for Republic of Ireland and made the Irish squad before he was called up to Bournemouth's first team. Travers signed a new extended deal at the club in July 2019.

No 2: Simon Francis
DOB: 16.2.85

Nationality: English
Contract: 2 years from May 2018

Simon is like our rock in the back four. He seems so cool at his job and never seems flustered even when put under pressure. He has a fabulous cross on him and I like the way he plays quick passes in and around the oppositions box. I like his confidence, his quick thinking and positioning which is usually spot on. Player of the season in 2014-15 and 2015-16 he has rapidly become a favourite with many fans for his dashing runs down the right wing. Of late he has played at centre half and he looks just as strong there. He signed a 3.5 year contract in Jan 2016 and extended it for a year in May 2018 taking him up to May 2020.

No 3: Stephen Cook
DOB: 19.4.91
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from May 2017

Twitter @SteveCook28
Cookie has strong desire as well. Yes, he is young and still has to get that consistency of performance that some of his other teammates find, but he is one that you want battling for you. A big heart and full of belief, he will mature at AFCB into a very good player under Eddie and Jason. Fearless and very comfortable on the ball, Steve is the model centre back who also likes to score a few goals. Steve extended his contract that was 3 years from May 2016 to a new 4-year contract in 2017 until May 2021. He won the Micky Cave Trophy, Vice-President's Award and Exiles' Player of the year in 2017.

No 11: Charlie Daniels
DOB: 7.9.86
Nationality: English
Contract 3.5 years from Feb 2016
Twitter @chazdaniels13
Charlie is a tough competitor, he does not give up and will run the length of the pitch all day long if he has to. Do you think he and Marc Pugh were separated at birth? They just seem to know exactly what each should be doing and their partnership continues to flourish in the Premier League. Charlie signed a three-and-a-half year contract in February 2016 to keep him at the Cherries until 2019 and then added three more years in September 2017 taking him to autumn 2020. Hopefully an England call up is not too far away.

No 15: Adam Smith
DOB: 19.4.91
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 year contract from July 2017
Twitter @AdamSmith912

Adam had a loan period with us in the 2011 season and was part of the team that made it to the League One play-offs with AFCB. He is a quick and talented right back that has already been capped at England U21 level. While he has been one of the main subs in 2014-15 he played his part in helping the team win promotion to the Premier League even if his last minute foul on Atdhe Nihiu of Sheffield Wednesday will not be remembered for his favourite moment in an AFCB shirt. In the Premier League he has had some memorable games including his great strike against Everton in the thrilling 3-3 draw. Adam signed a four-year deal in May 2016 but resigned an extended deal for four-years in July 2017.

No 14: Brad Smith
DOB: 9.4.94
Nationality: Australian
Contract: from July 2016

On loan to Cardiff City for 2019-20
Brad signed in the summer of 2016 from Liverpool and while he is seen as a left-back I am sure he may well add cover in the left midfield position as well of required. Whether he can gain a regular spot will be a difficult task for him but if he can get a run in the team we may find that he is one of the best signings that the club has made. It is a signing of potential but Brad's potential is already a long way down the line as an international player and he can hopefully start putting in performances that raise his level even more. He didn't play a Premier League game in 2017/18 and was loaned to Seattle Sounders in 2018-19 before going on loan to Cardiff in 2019-20.

No: 46 Corey Jordan
DOB: 4.3.1999

Corey Jordan has already made his debut for AFCB in the senior team against Cardiff City in a pre-season friendly. As a centre-back he has a few players ahead of him but as a 17-year-old it is great to see some young players finally getting in and around the first team.

No 5: Nathan AkΓ©
DOB: 18.02.95
Nationality: Holland
Contract: from June 2017 long-term (5-years?)
Twitter @NathanAke
Nathan AkΓ© enjoyed a great six months at AFCB in the club's second season in the Premier League and soon became a fans' favourite. He joined permanently on 1 July 2017 and for a club record fee said to be £20m. AkΓ© also made his Holland debut during the summer of 2017 and will be a strong contender to become a regular starter for AFCB. He won all the player of the year awards in 2017/18.

No 25: Jack Simpson
DOB: 8.01.97
Nationality: English
Contract: from Nov 2018 to summer 2021
Jack made his first team debut in the Carabao Cup second round match against Middlesbrough in October when he scored and single-handedly won the game. He also played in the next round at Chelsea and made his Premier League debut against Man City away in December 2017. He is an accomplished centre-back and is already giving competition to more well-known stars.

No: 21 Diego Rico
DOB: 23.2.93
Nationality: Spanish
Contract: 4 years from July 2018
Twitter: @diegorico_3
Diego joined AFCB as their second summer signing in 2018. He plays at left-back and will be battling against Charlie Daniels to get game time. His previous club was Leganes and he signed for a reported £10.7m.

No 33: Chris Mepham
DOB: 5.11.97
Nationality: Wales
Contract: long term possible 4 years from Jan 2019

Chris signed from Brentford on 22 Jan 2019. Having played some 50 games for Brentford he is young to make a move to a Premier League club, but he already has international experience and should learn quick at AFCB.

No 26: Lloyd Kelly
DOB: 6.10.98
Nationality: EnglandTwitter: @Lloydkelly4
Lloyd was the first summer signing of 2019. He made the jump up from Bristol City in the Championship and had only played a season and a half in the Championship. AFCB see Kelly as a left-back and future centre-half. He is an England U21 player.

No 17: Jack Stacey
DOB: 6.4.96
Nationality: English
Contract: four year deal from July 2019

Twitter @jackstacey_
Jack Stacey signed from Luton Town in July 2019. He is a right-back and former Reading player who has had a few seasons in the Championship.

Midfield players

No 24: Ryan Fraser
DOB: 24.2.94
Nationality: Scottish
Contract: From Feb 2017 until Summer 2020

Twitter @RyanFraser94
Gosh, we have a small team in terms of height (5ft 4in). Another speed merchant who gets his head down and looks to paralyse the opposition with his wriggling run. He is young and has time to learn when to look up and find a pass and when to go for broke to hit that dead ball line, before pulling back a cross. Perhaps he won't score many headers but then again there aren't many that do score from headers in our team. Aberdeen's lost is certainly AFCB's gain.

No: Harry Arter
DOB: 28.12.89
Nationality: English
Contract: 3 years from June 2016
Twitter @HarryArter2
on loan at Fulham

I believe Harry Arter is the best payer in our squad and he has earned that for his performances over the last two years when he has become the driving force of the team. Okay, he can be a little reckless and he is still trying to curb his chatter to the ref which always gets him in trouble, but you can't argue that on the playing side he has really developed at AFCB and I hope he gets better still. Harry was voted the fans player of the year in 2014-15 - the promotion season to the Premier League. Arter joined Cardiff in 2018-19 and Fulham in 2019-20 on loan.

No 4: Dan Gosling
DOB: 1.2.90
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2017

Dan will be one of the most experienced players at AFCB having played in the Premiership at both Everton and Newcastle. He is a battler and a goalscorer that should add more midfield power to the Cherries and some real quality. Another good free signing in 2014, Eddie Howe is pulling in players that will serve the club well without paying out big transfer fees. Dan extended his contract in 2017 for four years, taking him up to the summer of 2021.

No 19: Junior Stanislas
DOB: 26.11.89

Nationality: English
Contract: 3 years from Sept 2018

Twitter @JuniorStanislas
Junior moved to AFCB from Burnley on 26 June 2014 and he adds creative power to the team going forward. He worked with Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall previously at Burnley so we all hope that we see the very best of Junior but that probably has not happened yet. Another free signing, with excellent experience - the squad has the talent to make a good fist of the Premier League. His 2015/16 season was tremendous and he'll hope to improve on that. Junior signed a new contract in August 2016 having originally been on a three-year contract from June 2014. He then signed a three-year contract taking him to September 2021.

No 6: Andrew Surman
DOB: 20.08.86
Nationality: English
Contract: 2 years from July 2018

The end of the September 2014 window saw the return of Andrew Surman to AFCB from Norwich City, but this time as a permanent signing for three years. Surman is the ticking signature of the AFCB team and while he may not be the best finisher he keeps the ball better than anyone and is a play maker that has the qualities to keep the ball in the danger area and to win it in areas where other players are not as dogged. Andrew was named the Players' player of the year in 2014-15.

No: 22 Emerson Hyndman
DOB: 9.4.86
Nationality: USA
Contract: 4 years from June 2016
Twitter @emersonhyndman
On loan at Atlanta in the MLS for 2019-20
Emerson was signed as a free agent having seen his contract expire at Fulham at the end of June. AFCB did have to pay compensation though to Fulham as Emerson was an U21. The central midfielder had started to become more of a regular player in the Championship in 2015/16 for Fulham and AFCB beat off plenty of interest from abroad in snatching Emerson for the club's second season in the Premier League. He went on loan to Rangers Jan-May 2017.

No 16: Lewis Cook
DOB: 3.2.1997
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from May 2018
Twitter @lewiscook_
Lewis Cook was seen as one of the best prospects in the Championship in 2015-16 and AFCB's interest in the midfielder never died down even though they could not prise him away from Leeds Utd until the summer of 2016 when he signed a four year contract in July of that year. He is an England U19 midfielder and his strength and power should be a welcome addition to the team. Lewis won a senior England cap in 2018 and was a standby for the World Cup in 2018. He was given an improved 4-year contract n May 2018.

No 10: Jordan Ibe
DOB: 8.12.1995
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2016
Twitter  @IbeJordon
Jordan Ibe might only be 20 but he comes with a big reputation from Liverpool FC. Having played Europa League and Premier League matches he is the kind of calibre of player who is set to take AFCB to the next level. He needs to up his scoring potential but he should get plenty of opportunity to sharpen up in front of goal in this side. I hope it is the making of Jordan Ibe.

No: 20 David Brooks
DOB: 8.7.97
Nationality: English
Contract: long term from Feb 2019, probably up to 2023
Twitter @DRBrooks15
Shaun Brooks signed from Sheffield United in July 2018 and is already a Welsh U21 international player. He can play in right or left midfield or as a support striker. He is quick and an intelligent player than has great movement. Brooks signed a new long term contract in February 2019.

No 8: Jefferson Lerma
DOB: 25.10.94
Nationality: Colombia
Contract 5 years from August 2018
Twitter @Jeffersonlerma
Colombian international Jefferson Lerma smashed the AFCB transfer record in August when he joined the club for £25m. Having played at the 2018 World Cup, much is expected of Bournemouth's big summer signing in the Premier League.

No 28: Gavin Kilkenny

DOB: 1.2.2000
Nationality: Irish
Gavin became a professional in 2017/198 having signed for AFCB's U18s and progressing to the U21s. He took part on pre-season training n La Manga on the summer f 2019 and is now part of the first team squad.

DOB: 11.06.96
Nationality: Danish
Twitter @BillingPhilip
Philip Billing is a central midfielder who had played for Denmark's U21 and was signed from Huddersfield Town in July 2019.

No 14: Arnaut Danjuma
DOB: 31.01.97
Nationality: Dutch
Arnaut signed in the summer of 2019 from Club Brugge. He tends to play on the left but can also operate centrally and is a strong winger with a fearsome shot.

No 13: Callum Wilson
DOB: 27.2.92
Nationality: English
Contract: 4 years from July 2019
Twitter @officialcwilson
Callum has shown exceptional finishing qualities in League One while at Coventry City and it is a big move for him to come to AFCB in July 2014. Seen as strike partner for Yann Kermorgant his pace is what marks him out as a player that had a sensational first full season in the Championship scoring 23 goals in all competitions. Now he'll be looking to do even better in the Premier League having signed a new four year contract only a year after coming to the south coast. A cruciate ligament injury has kept him out of the side for much of his first season in the Premier League and he suffered the same injury on his left leg in January 2017. He scored eight goals in the Premier League in 2017/18. AFCB's goal machine scored 13 goals in 2018/19 and signed a new contract signed in July 2019 to ward of Hammers and Chelsea.

No 17: Josh King
DOB: 15.1.1992
Nationality: Norwegian
Contract: 4 years from August 2016
Josh King was a Man Utd graduate and started out at Romsas and Valerenga. He has been at Blackburn Rovers since 2013, but had loan spells at other clubs while he was at Man Utd. A quick and strong striker, Josh King could well take the Premier League by storm. He is equally adept at playing on the left wing and I have my fingers crossed that he will score bucket loads of goals. He joined the club in May 2015 and renewed a year later for another four years in August 2016. Josh then extended his contract in August 2016 for four years taking him to the summer of 2021 at the Cherries. Josh Scored eight goals in the Premier League in 2017/18.

DOB: 7.10.82
Nationality: England
Contract: 3 years from July 2017

Twitter: @IAmJermainDefoe

On loan at Rangers 2018-20
No stranger to Dean Court, Jermain Defoe returned to the ground where he made his name when on loan from West Ham United. He remains the club's record goalscorer for the number of consecutive goals in which he has scored - 10. He also has a habit of scoring on debut for every club he has played for. He only scored four Premier league goals in 2017-18 but was injured for a month or two after the League Cup Quarter-Final against Chelsea which AFCB lost 2-1 in December 2017.

No 9: Dominic Solanke
DOB: 14.9.97
Nationality: England
