AFCB make £16m bid for La Liga player

Bournemouth have made a £16m bid for Colombian midfielder Jefferson Lerma, according to SkySports. The Cherries are keen to get the deal sorted before the World Cup gets underway. The move for Lerma, 23, will alert Premier League teams that the Cherries are perhaps willing to let Harry Arter depart this summer and the Colombian is a similar player that will drive a team forward from midfield.

Earlier today, The Sun claimed that Bournemouth were leading the chase for Lerma despite offers from sides in La Liga and the Bundersliga. The foreign pursuers are thought to value the midfielder at around £8.8m. It may seem that AFCB would be paying well over the odds with these lower valuations and SkySpotrs even says that add-ons could push Bournemouth's price up to £19m. While paying big money may well succeed in getting the player, it is arguable that the Cherries are not wanting to mess about and are prepared to splash the cash to get their first summer signing.

Jefferson has played against the best in La Liga with games against Barcelona and Real Madrid. In May 2017, Jefferson signed an extended contract with Levante to keep him with the Spanish side until 2022. So, the Colombian is perhaps not expecting to move this summer even if the size of AFCB's bid will surely make Levante consider listening.

Eddie Howe has not delved into La Liga before and the signing would mark a new era in AFCB's spending power. Lerma would be AFCB's second largest signing ever behind Nathan Aké and perhaps we are starting to get an idea that Howe is intent on brining players with top class credentials now to the club to move the Cherries further up the Premier League. While the Cherries are not at all packed with Spanish speakers there may be a need to brush up the language skills if AFCB's bid is accepted.

In other news, Benik Afobe has signed for Stoke City having only recently signed for Wolves.
