Is Swansea keeper a big improvement on Begovic?

The keeper position has been very much settled all season at the Cherries Asmir Begovic is the undisputed number one, but if rumours from Wales Online are correct in identifying Lukasz Fabianski at Swansea as a summer target for the Cherries, would we see Fabianski taking the number one shirt?

Eddie Howe knows that the team is still leaking far too many goals to be a top 10 side. Fabianski is arguably better at making shots than most in the Premier League with only Jack Butland topping the Swansea City keeper's 137 saves in 38 matches. I suppose the Polish connection with Boruc is something that would give Bournemouth a potential advantage in attracting Fabianski.

Asmir made the seventh highest amount of saves in the Premier League with 111 saves. So we have to ask whether changing keepers would really make that much difference to the Cherries' points tally?

Goalkeepers are worth a good few points and yet Fabianski could not make the difference to keep Swansea City up. I also wonder how much it matters bringing players into a club that have felt the low of being relegated as Jermain Defoe was last season. Bournemouth don't need too many players that have been in sides that have tasted relegation.

The possibility of Fabianski joining the club may mean that Adam Federici is now ready to leave and to have three keepers pressing for the number one shirt would give the Cherries a very competitive line up of stoppers. But Eddie can only play one and if it would still be Asmir Begovic, I wonder whether the money would be better spent elsewhere in the team.

In other news, former AFCB player Chris Weller has passed away.

  1. ...Is this really something that Eddie would spend time on? He has two PL keepers who can do the job, I couldn't see Fabianski playing second or third fiddle here. Hopefully we are looking to strengthen in the areas that we need to bolster like defence and central midfield...if we are talking Swansea players then Sam Clucas would be a decent signing for our midfield?
