Having watched Callum Wilson in the games against Portsmouth and Reading I can't help but feel that the striker is still some way from his best form and he will need to sharpen up quickly to be in the picture for his accustomed starting place. He had another run out against Angers SCO and maybe he has now shrugged off his heavy legs and is ready to reek havoc against Man Utd. It would seem unthinkable to many AFCB fans that Callum could be dropped, but there should be no guaranteed places and every individual should be looking to be at their maximum fitness after a competitive pre-season. AFCB have more strength in depth this season and should not seem a much weaker team if any one player is not quite right and needs a bit more time.
Callum has shown that he has found the net a couple of times this summer, but I can't help but see that he is not running around at full steam yet. Some of that may be a reaction in not wanting to get injured before the season starts and it may be that he has been told not to crash into tackles in pre-season. It is natural though for any player to go about a game without holding back and when we consider that Callum has not played that many games since returning from his serious injury it may be that he needs more time than others to really find his top gear.
While the pressure is on Callum to be the main goalscorer which he tends to thrive on, there is plenty of back up for him this season and that brings its own tension. While Lys Mousset may be looking for his first goal for AFCB, the Frenchman has already demonstrated his pace and power and should be a useful addition. Lewis Grabban is very much the forgotten man that could surprise a good few if he can find the kind of form that brought goals aplenty in the Championship. Arguably, it is Josh King who is the consistent performer though and it is important that the team has a few players who never drop their standards very much - King is one of those with his work rate and energy.
I want to see Wilson show some similar characteristics, because when Wilson is eager to burst the net he looks the complete Premier League striker. There is still a little time to go yet before the season start, but AFCB's goal machine may need all of that time to oil his shooting and his fitness.
