While all the attention has been on the players that have played this season in the league, Artur Boruc still waits to see if he will get a go. He may be aware of why Asmir Begovic has been given his number one jersey for the start of the season, but he should be stepping up his efforts to try and get it back now.
The loss of game structure at Arsenal seemed complete when Begovic started to kick in my mind. AFCB reverted to something that wasn't their strength, and it was no safer. While Begovic made a few good saves, it may well show that know one is safe to start if Boruc is brought back into the starting line up. For while Begovic made saves at Arsenal he also has been beaten eight times in four games, and if he starts to expect that he is going to get beaten it would be wise to use Boruc who can get clean sheets and will keep rolling out the ball at the back whenever he can.
Artur Boruc can win back his starting place. |
While Artur has a habit of making to odd mistake, especially with his kicking it could well help the team just to know he is at the beck behind them once again. It was evident that Asmir Begovic is starting to find he is being called upon rather more often than he would like to be in games, and while he likes to get rid of the ball with some haste, it doesn't often enable AFCB to build from the back. Whether Begovic was given instructions to kick after what was the manager saw happening at Arsenal is something only Eddie Howe and Begovic will know, but while Eddie has been in charge, Bournemouth have never been a side that have been great at challenging for balls on the half way line that had been booted up field by the keeper.

It would be a big call to make, but I don't see much between the two keepers in what they can do and with no scars on Boruc he may really bring his 'A' game in an effort to stay in the team now. I'd have no problems if the big Pole is between the sticks for the Brighton game.
I agree I think Boruc's last season was his best and was never quite clear on why he was put back
ReplyDeleteMe and my missus have picked up on Begovic and booting the ball upfield, too. It's not the Eddie way of things, is it? Especially with Defoe as a 'target man', he's looked lost competing for those balls.
ReplyDeleteIts not the goalkeeper...Lewis Cook must start or the manager has to realise he has lost the plot and go..I have a horrible feeling it will be Surman and Arter again.....and championship here we come
ReplyDeleteBegivic booting it is intentional, it's due to the 3 at the back system... when that system is employed it requires more back passes to the keeper... but also means fewer options to roll it back out! The intention is to then hit the midfield area earlier with a longer ball ... and with 5 in midfield (wing backs will be further up the pitch than full backs) its supposed to keep a higher pressing line! At the moment and for us its best used if Afobe is on the pitch... he makes for an excellent 'target man' and invariably wins most of the long balls sent in his direction. It's not worked so far because Defoe has been used with King (King needs balls played to his feet, so does Defoe) and that combination is one of the things that needs working on... and IMO is only suited to a four at the back system with the Defoe/Afobe combo reserved for a 3 at the back system. In either case we still need lots more creativity from the midfielders than the zero creativity we getting at the moment! It's unfair to expect 20 yr old Lewis Cook to step up from playing against 19/20 yr olds into a pressure situation like this... and why Eddie has not replaced Wilshere with another experienced/creative number ten to step into that hole, is IMO evidence of serious short sightedness.
