Real Betis just too strong for the Cherries 0-2

Match Report
AFCB 0 v 2 Real Betis
3 August 2018
Pre-seson continues with a match against Real Betis at Dean Court.
Bournemouth fielded a strong side against Real Betis with Simon Francis, Lewis Cook and Jordan Ibe among the starters but they found it hard to deal with the possession play of the visitors. Betis went ahead on 13 minutes after Boruc missed a long ball up to their striker Boudebouz, who made not mistake in beating Boruc and Mings. Jermain Defoe came closest to an equaliser in the first half, but was thwarted along with Jordan Ibe with consecutive saves from Robles in the Betis goal. Real Betis looked even stronger in the second half, and while they did not beat Boruc again until into added time, Loren Moron made it 0-2 to leave Bournemouth fans entertained, but seeing their side short of goals on this occasion.

Eddie Howe named Diego Rico in the starting line up having played him in the mid-week closed-door game against Amiens and Simon Francis would captain the side at right back. The centre-back positions were interesting with Simpson and Mings paired together.

First half
Real Betis were confident at playing the ball around their back line. Tyrone Mings headed away fro the first corner for the visitors. The shot went just wide from Sanabriaz. A second corner from the left soon followed and Mings had to put another defensive header out for a third corner.

Ibe managed to push Bournemouth forward. Betis were quick to recover the ball though. The heat might have been responsible for AFCB's players not pressing to much. Francis played a good reverse ball for Ibe but Ibe caught the defender.

Real Betis look well in control but are not making incisive passes in the last third yet. Boudebouz is free on Bournemouth's left and he spoon's his shot over. That was the second chance they have had, 13 minutes gone.

A long kick sees Boudebouz against Boruc. The keeper comes out but he air kicks the ball and with Mings beaten Boudebouz cuts inside and taps the ball into the net on 17 minutes. Keeper howeler I'm afraid.

Some more good build up play by Real Betis. They are sweeping the ball from one side of the pitch to the other.

Mousset is tackled by Bartra. Rico puts a good low cross in but Defoe can't get on the end of it. Ibe slows the build up for Bournemouth but hits a weak shot from outside the box.

Rico is finding Defoe now better. Ibe has a shot blocked. Betis come forward Carmarsa and Boudebouz is blocked. Pugh and Rico are being tested. A high shot from Canalas doesn't worry Boruc.

Boudebouz shoots across goal and Mings sees the ball clip his heels and fall kindly for Boruc to save on 27 minutes. Rico gets his cross in and wins a throw. Francis has to make a clearance.

Mousset comes forward and Defoe is fouled in front of the box by Barta. Ibe takes the free kick and beats the wall but not Robles in goal. Ibe just seems a bit heavy-legged compared to Mousset. Mousset has a go from distance but it's well over.

Mings puts another ball out for a Betis corner on 32 minutes. Lewis Cook has fouled Boudebouz just outside the box. Boruc is getting ready for a shot. Canales hits it well over.

Mousset over to Pugh and Defoe shoots it's pushed out by Robles and Ibe's shot is saved too. Could easily have been 1-1, but it stays 0-1.

Lewis Cook drifts the ball out to the right and Ibe's won it. The cross is forced out. Mousset shoots from the byline and Francis shot is blocked for Bournemouth's first corner on 37 minutes.

Boudebouz on the break is just kept out by Rico and Boruc. Boruc had to put his hand on the ball to keep it from going in. Bournemouth do look vulnerable to counter-attacks.

Simpson gets a good clearance away.

Camarasa, Sanabriaz and then Canales with the shot over. Betis are working the ball well again. Ball over the top by Canales to Sanabriaz and Simpson and Mings just about deal with it.

Rico likes to play strong early balls forward which could suit AFCB.  Camarasa over to Boudebouz, who crosses and Junior heads which Boruc saves, and the ball just evades a Betis striker and goes out for a goal kick. Pugh finds Rico and Bournemouth win their second a corner. Half time 0-1.

Second half
Bournemouth started okay in the second half with Rico taking a long shot before Betis came close with an overhead kick.

A Bournemouth corner on 54 minutes taken by Pugh was cleared. Arter has had a quiet game but is trying to get more involved. Junior is tackled by Francis in the box.

Pugh lays the ball back to Mousset but he is blocked. Betis make some subs. Brasanac and Sanabriaz are subbed. Telo is on.

Betis have a corner. Junior in the box beats Francis but not Simpson. Mousset gets some attention 64 minutes gone. Cook's long ball finds Rico. Ibe's away and Rico's cross is cleared. Mings, Simpson and Francis are making aback three for Bournemouth.

Arter to Francis and Pugh puts a cross in that is chested back to the keeper Bartra. Defoe finds some space but shoots wide of goal. Simpson gets himself out of trouble near his own goal. Bournemouth are pushing harder now. Robles has to come out to get to a short back pass.

Carmarsa and Canales go off. Inui and Joaquin are on for Betis. Boruc drops a corner ball but is fouled. Simpson came to Boruc's aid there. Joaquin's strike is blocked by Simpson.

Arter gets to Inui and fouls. The shots over the bar from Joaquin. Arter to Ibe and Defoe's shot is at a nice height for the keeper. Ibe shoots fro age and it's pushed over for a corner on 78 minutes. Defoe is subbed to bring on Hyndman. Simpson heads the corner over.

Betis look much the stronger now with all their changes. Pugh gets a cross to give a corner away. Boruc punches. Betis are offside.

Betis are knocking the ball about. Mings has to watch his step. Betis bring on more subs as Mandi goes off. Lys Mousset makes way for Alex Dobre on 84 minutes.

Boruc makes a good high save to his left from Guardado. Ibe to Rico and his cross is headed out by Talo for a corner.

Break and here come Betis. Inui is tripped by Arter who gets a yellow card. Joaquin lines it up and hits the wall. Francis is going off and Hobson replaces him. Joaquin chips the ball over to Moron who beats Boruc in the bottom left corner 0-2. Hyndman stopped running and should have tracked Moron better than that.

Summary
Some of the games in pre-season have been disappointing but Bournemouth put in a better performance over 90 minutes in this game. Real Betis were very good opposition who freshened their team up to make it even more difficult for AFCB's players trying to get 90 minutes under their belt. The sloppy first goal showed again how the Cherries often switch off for a second and it causes havoc. Boruc did make a poor attempt at getting the ball once he had decided to come off his line but Boudebouz finished well. Bournemouth really needed to take their chances and they found Robles up to the task when he was called upon. Diego Rico put in some great crosses and is quick to get back in defence. Ibe is looking like he wants to score goals though this season and Lys Mousset was giving his best all game. The midfield of Arter and Lewis Cook didn't have as much energy as I would have expected, but they have another week to up their game. Boruc probably knows he is the number two keeper if he did already think so before this game.
