Preparing for Liverpool shouldn't seem like it is an unenviable position to be in after falling a bit flat at Cardiff. Liverpool also have enormous pressure on their players having dropped points in the title race, and they have to play in front of an expectant crowd that won't be pleased if the game doesn't go according to plan in the first half an hour or so.
Bournemouth can't put players on the pitch that aren't fully fit so they will be without some of their big names. Howe has to make the players that are going to play feel that they are capable of pulling off an upset. What would it mean for them sitting on the plane coming home after the match having beaten Liverpool? He needs to get that feeling of excitement in their heads and let them know that they would be seen as the players that got the best result of the season, if they can pick up three points at Anfield.
The ex-Liverpool players will be essential in Howe's talks. He'll want and need to get the best out of them, and it will mean more for those players who should want to raise the morale of the other players before this game. Bournemouth can have a positive end to the season if they can notch up some big wins or they can fade away and watch other sides catch them up. We need to see the team have some pride in its away performances and it has to start at Andfield, for Eddie to be happy.
These are the matches AFCB love to be involved in. |
That has to be Bournemouth's first objective, to stop the Liverpool machine from finding top gear. That means giving them no encouragement - no silly errors - and keeping hold of the ball for as long as they can. It is a time where Eddie Howe really needs to get the midfield and defence working extremely hard to counter what they will be up against. But the creative side of the game also needs some work after what we saw at Cardiff.
