Bournemouth might have wiped the floor with Chelsea in the second half, but they had to earn that right after a difficult first 45 minutes. Eddie Howe might not have been pleased that Bournemouth had to play so much counter-attacking football, especially when his team are at home, but the devastating attacks meant that Chelsea were virtually overrun in the second half.
At various times of the game Bournemouth looked to spring attacks quickly when they had won the ball in the middle of the park. It is certainly the way Bournemouth can hurt teams with top-class players and it is a part of the game that Bournemouth are getting better and better at. There were a few glimpses of it in the first half with David Brooks particularly running the length of the pitch, but it was in the second half when Bournemouth got some joy in front of goal.
Whether the team needs to work more at other parts of the game is perhaps something that Eddie Howe was trying to refer to in his post-match debreifing, even though Bournemouth won with a big score. It's hard to say anything negative when your team wins 4-0 at home. There is more to come though in the fact that a lot of balls were lost in the middle of the park.
The clean sheet though is great for the team spirit and when Bournemouth can block and be brave at the back, it gives them a platform to go and express themselves which is exactly what they did in the second half. On this night, it was Brooks and King that had the sharp finishing, but Stanislas and Fraser were also very active in the game and they can also be players to hit teams on the counter.
The next test is a bottom three club, but Liverpool away could be another match where the counter-attacking style is going to be Bournemouth's best card to play at Anfield.
Transfer News
Tyrone Mings has moved to Aston Villa for the rest of the season. Corey Jordan is also loaned to Eastbourne Borough and Frank Vincent is loaned to Torquay.
