Aké is just too important for AFCB to sell

Reports this week in the national press that Aké is being targeted by Tottenham are no surprise. Bournemouth might consider a sum of around £40m good business in any other area of the field, but when their team is struggling to keep goals out the last thing Eddie Howe will want is to sell his leading defender.
Aké remain very popular with AFCB fans.
Nathan Aké might not have had his best season but he has been ever-present in Bournemouth's defence, and if he had not been available for so many matches it could have been a much worse season for the Cherries. I have no doubt that Aké could play for a top six team like Spurs and would do a very good job, but how do you put a price on a player that you want to be at the heart of your side for the next five or more years?

Considered in that timescale, I'd say £40m doesn't come anywhere near Aké's true value to AFCB and I'd be shocked if Bournemouth wasted anytime in considering such a bid for one of their star players. A few years ago, AFCB would sell if one of their players was worth £1m as was the case with Danny Ings as finances still dominated the club in League One. But players are a longer-term investment for the club now, especially when the signings show that they are comfortable at the Premier League level.

For once I'm not that concerned that Spurs value one of our players. If they start thinking bigger than £50m then I'd still hoe that Bournemouth could hold out. There is likely to be a test for AFCB at some point for Aké, now that the club has brought n Chris Mepham, but Mepham is far from ready to be considered an equal to Aké yet and AFCB need to keep players like Aké for as long as they can, if they are to improve the other players around them in the squad.

  1. Ake was part of a defence the leaked 70 goals last season..we have a number of defenders..Mings,Simpson,Cook,Mepham...without Ake..I would sell him and bring in a right back....is Smith up to it...sell Fraser as well for £25m and use the money to strengthen....will Lewis Cook be back for next season...we missed him terribly

  2. I agree, no way do you let Ake go. To me he is far to valuable to the chemistry of the team to sell. If Fraser wants to leave get 25 million for him, let him set the bench at Arsenal and get a couple defenders.
