I get the feeling we are all awaiting for the big guns of Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea to start spending the cash to get this transfer market really moving. While most Premier League clubs have been quick to name players that are being releases, there isn't a lot of big money moves yet and that could be worrying for clubs like AFCB who like to do their transfer business early as other clubs might want to hang on to players if there is little movement in the market.
One or no signings at this stage seems to be about par for the course for Premier League teams. The most sizeable transfer to date when I write this is Wolves' signing of Raul Jiminez from Benfica for £30m. But that is a bit of anomaly at the moment with the majority of clubs not having made one signing, according to SkySports' transfer Done Deals, as we head into June.
Bournemouth's main concern is the goal keeping area I'd suggest. While there are lots of number twos and three goalkeepers that could be plundered, most clubs who are in the market for a keeper want one who can play well with their feet as well as their hands. Man City have shown the way on that one and who doesn't want to play like Man City? Suddenly many goalkeepers look short of being fit for purpose.
AFCB are also in the market for wingers and a striker. I can see that Liverpool is a good place to look as they have been creating amazing goals and their support players have been taught to play the same way as the Salah's and Mane's. While the likes of Daniel Sturridge might be out of AFCB's pay bracket, there isn't many other Premier League strikers that I'd really get that excited about coming to AFCB. If AFCB wanted a good Liverpool striker, Divok Origi was the one to go for but that boat isn't sailing this summer after his epic season.
What I don't see is why AFCB aren't more interested in central midfielders. Lerma has been excellent, but is Lewis Cook going to reach a new level this coming season. Will AFCB be relying on Gosling and Surman to improve the amount of goals coming from central midfield?
This transfer window looks difficult for AFCB. While there are lots of links to young players who have played in the Championship or U21 level, there isn't much talk of big names coming to AFCB and perhaps that is not a bad thing because did Wilshere, Defoe or Begovic really take AFCB forward? Once the big clubs start spending we might get a clearer picture of how AFCB are going to try and spend their transfer budget, but we may have to settle for just one or two more signings at best, if this turns out to be a frustrating and ultimately underwhelming wait and this summer.
