Is Defoe serious about a move to the Cherries?

There are strong whispers coming out of Sunderland that Jermain Defoe will be moving before the transfer window shuts and AFC Bournemouth have been linked with the former Cherries' striker in what would be a sensational move back to the south coast. Jermain, 32, has clearly stated that he would like a move back down south and while his wage demands are high he might take a drop if he can join up with Eddie Howe's team.

The Cherries are keen to add more strike power to their attack after seeing the team fail to score against Aston Villa and an experienced Premier League striker is what is required. Jermain only moved from Toronto FC to Sunderland in January, but he has looked isolated and frustrated in Sunderland's two defeats in the Premier League and in order to get new players in, Jermain is seen as one player that the Black Cats can get a good return on by moving him on. He has an extraordinary record of scoring every time he debuts for a club and has scored five goals for Sunderland in 18 appearances so far - most of which came in his first few games.

Have the Cherries the money for Jermain's wages? Well if they are £80k a month perhaps but as it is what he is likely to want per week then I don't think he will come to Dean Court, but if the Cherries is his only choice to stay in the Premier League that figure could be way off the mark. The move to Bournemouth would seem a good fit in that Jermain would be in familiar surroundings where he will get to play a reasonable amount of games and for the Cherries his knowledge and speed would be a great addition to the squad and could replace Tokelo Rantie if the South African is likely to go out on loan. It would be quite something if Jermain completes his career down on the south coast where he still has the record of the most goals in consecutive matches - 10 in 10.
