Rare comeback is pleasing for Howe

While Eddie Howe was congratulating his troops for making a comeback against Southampton, it was another game where Bournemouth found it hard to get out early and impose any of their game on the opposition. That was until Bournemouth scored a stunning goal with their first attack.
Eddie Howe sees positives form Southampton draw.
Southampton dominated and threatened to storm ahead by more than the one goal and the Cherries did well and had a bit of fortune on their side to keep Southampton down to one goal first half. Bournemouth looked very exposed and made some criminal mistakes, but somehow the players just grabbed hold of Gosling's goal like a lifeline. It really woke them up and got the payers playing to their strengths and Wilson's goal was a huge bonus when it put AFCB 1-2 up.

Having made the comeback though, Bournemouth didn't see an easy way to shut the game down or block off the chances which just kept coming for Southampton. The game could have easily run away from the Cherries further when they went 3-2 down, and it was great to see that the players were not accepting the scoreline and conjured up another fast, counter-attacking goal to bring back parity.

To come back twice and to have the opportunity to win the game is quite unusual, but the game was far too open and neither side seemed to prioritise defence at any point. It was a bit like an old school football playground game where it would just rotate between one side attacking and then the other. Bournemouth's fitness might just have been part of what edged them back into the game at the end but a point was no less than the players deserved.
