Newcastle wins out in the battle for Bournemouth striker

The destiny of where Callum Wilson would end up this summer has been more tantalising for the clubs involved in the tussle than for AFCB fans. With Callum apparently arriving at St James' Park in Mike Ashley's helicopter, it was clear that Newcastle's bid of £20m was enough for the Cherries despite Aston Villa coming in with a counteroffer of £21m, says TalkSport.

Callum Wilson goes north to join Newcastle United.

Newcastle United is probably a good club for Wilson in that he will be the main striker and he would have had big competition at Tottenham from Harry Kane. At Aston Villa, he would similarly have been the main man, but he has favoured a move to the northeast and Newcastle will be feeling very smug that they have an England striker now.

What Bournemouth fans will wonder is what is happening with the transfer money? Will JT finally spend some of the incoming cash? I hope he does get to spend some money, although the recent performance against West Ham perhaps indicates that there are more than one or two players who can step up. I was particularly impressed with Jaidon Anthony who took his goal particularly well in the 3-5 rout.

I still believe AFCB needs to buy at least be more striker and possibly look to strengthen the defence with another player having seen Nathan Aké depart. The Premier League may be more pressurised but the Championship has more games and with AFCB's injury record it makes sense to have adequate numbers.

As for Callum, he will do okay for Newcastle. He may have gone their relatively on the cheap but he has a chance t show how good he can be as a Premier League player. TalkSport still says that JT is interested in bringing back Matt Ritchie to Dean Court, but I don't think that would be much compensation if the Cherries have to sell David Brooks.
