The statisticians may already have worked out that Callum Wilson and Josh King have the same amount of goals this season and Josh has just caught up with Callum on seven Premier League goals with his finish at Southampton. Callum may have looked the odds on favourite to end up at the top of Bournemouth's goal chart at the end of the season, but now the goals have dried up for Bournemouth's number 13.
There has been a lot of talk about Newcastle United making Josh King their number one target for the summer. King may not have had the season to follow his epic goal spree last season but he has the all round game that make him a real menace and a great player to have in your squad. He has started to pick up a few goals while not playing in the number nine role, but AFCB could get more out of King if he was used as the main forward I feel.
The lead striker role has still been left with Callum Wilson who hasn't been finding the ball fall for him. It is hard to define why things have been so hard for Wilson in recent games. He has been doing the running but hasn't looked like scoring and you kind of feel his whole persona is not quite giving off the vibes that he will score. But he is still being preferred to Jermain Defoe and it is perhaps the glaring oversight this season that Bournemouth have not got the best out of Jermain.
The real problem I find this season is that Bournemouth haven't managed to make a striking partnership. The strikers are all very individual players whether Howe plays Defoe, King, Wilson or Mousset. There is a question over whether they are good enough in their own right, but unless Bournemouth can get two of the strikers working well together there can be no surprise that the team is finding goals hard to come by.
If there is any competition to be the top goal scorer I hope it helps the team be a bit more selfish in front of goal. Whether King or Wilson is the top scorer might not really matter to any one but to themselves, but there needs to be more hunger and precision in front of goal.
