Taking on West Ham will be no easier than it was back in August. If anything this will be a more difficult game as Slavern Bilic has a much better understanding of his squad now and the Hammers are aiming to finish in the European places with their good start to the season.
AFCB are likely to have a bit of an unknown quality in their threat coming forward now with Juan Iturbe, Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban pushing for starts. West Ham will know about these players and what they have to offer but AFCB will be trying to use the excitement of the new signings to lift the performance of the whole team and with players like Tommy Elphck and Lee Tomlin getting back to fitness there has to be a better mood about Dean Court with players knowing that the club is stronger for this second half of the season.
Taking their chance in front of goal is what Eddie Howe will want to see now. We know that the side can compete with the best sides and has already won five matches at this level, but it is transforming the draws into wins that matter now. AFCB had a tight game against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day that they may have won had their finishing just been of that higher quality and perhaps the new signings will prove enough to win similar games now.
It is a fact that Callum Wilson's five goal total has not been overtaken yet, even if Junior Stanislas has equalled it. The strikers will want to see if they can get their totals up towards double figures and there has to be a real emphasis on putting chances away. A win against West Ham would have huge significance not just for the points but for the confidence of the team. AFCB need big performances in every game now and if the new signings can get off to good starts that should build some momentum in the aim to get those 40 points in the league.
I have been mulling over the probable AFCB team for tonight and keep changing my mind, which is good as it means Slaven Bilic will also be confused.
AFCB possible team
Boruc, Smith, Francis, Cook, Daniels, Ritchie, Surman, Arter, Gosling, Stanislas, King
Bench
Federici, Distin, Iturbe, Pugh, Tomlin, Murray, Afobe
We may have to wait on Iturbe and Grabban and it is hard to tell if King is okay or not to play.
You should be able to catch my responses to questions I answered for the IronViews website at some point today.
