Adam Smith has work to do to get ready for the new season

Eddie Howe made it clear that Adam Smith had felt some tightness in his quad and was having treatment before starting to run on grass again. The position of right back is being highlighted while Adam is out of the team and with Simon Francis the most natural replacement, Eddie Howe has been happy to put him back in that position. But as pre-season progresses, Adam Smith will want to get his place back and that could be a tough task if he has to wait come back in against some of the teams late on in pre-season.

Adam Smith will be up against time to be fit for the first game if the season.
I just wonder if Howe might think about bringing in another right back to cover the position better. It may even be good that Adam has had this problem now rather than three or four weeks into the season, as at least Howe is seeing what is available when Adam can't play. Smith has always been a player that gets involved in scraps on the pitch. Some players are like that, but it has taken AFCB a while to really consider whether this position is as well protected as other positions.

Adam will have to push hard as well to get match fit by the time of the West Brom game. It's looking like he won't be ready to play 90 minutes then if he is only just going to start running again on grass this week, but the physios might work their magic on him. Smith has had such a good run in the side that it is hard to imagine him not being out there, but it is a sign of how well he has played in the last year that AFCB don't seem complete without him.

There has been no chatter on a new right back for Bournemouth and it is likely that Howe will try and make do with what he has, but I hope it might have opened his eyes a bit to at least think about finding some competition for Adam Smith.

In other news, AFCB fans may find that Lewis Grabban and Marc Wilson leave the club this transfer window this season with Sunderland their destination, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Adam Smith signs a new four-year contract with AFCB.
