Not that many AFCB fans may be familiar with Sam Surridge, but he has been at AFCB since he was 14 and as an 18-year old he could find himself thrust into action at Goodison today, if Eddie Howe needs to use him. Having now been brought into the squad for this game, it is interesting to wonder who might have been left out.
Looking at AFCB's gallery on the club website we can see players such as Max Gradel, Baily Cargill, and Lewis Cook all in action during the final training session. Lys Mousset is perhaps the most likely to miss out and may not have travelled.
Still, it will be the inclusion of Sam Surridge that is the big talking point if he gets on the pitch. Sam was last used as a sub in the U21 match against QPR that AFCB lost 3-1, even if Sam did get on the score sheet for the Cherries that day. He joined the Dolphins - Poole Town in September and made 11 appearances for them six as a sub, and he netted eight goals, including a hat-trick against Chelmsford City in November, and he played in two rounds of the FA Cup for the Dolphins. He scored most of his goals when he came on as a sub, so that bodes well if he makes a sub appearance against Everton.
Whether Sam gets on at Goodison or not, he is probably in line to then play for the U21's on 7 February at Swindon. Only a few days ago it was Gillingham who thought they might be able to take Sam on loan, but the injury to Callum Wilson has given Sam a higher opportunity of turning out for the first team instead.
If you don't yet recognise Sam he has been given squad number 44. His contract was recently extended to keep him at the Cherries until the summer of 2018. Best of luck today Sam. UTCIAD!
Sam could make his Premier League debut at Goodison. Recently bought keeper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffiled Utd is also expected to travel to Everton. |
