Eddie Howe decided not to start with Callum Wilson in the match against Chelsea. Perhaps he felt 90 minutes in the Middlesbrough match was more than enough for Callum and Chelsea were not the right opponents for him to be tested against. But there can be little more time for him to be protected if Bournemouth are going to look to him to get the goals they need.
There is something very special about Wilson though. He exudes confidence and is happy to live up to the reputation of Bournemouth's goal machine. He smiles when he runs on to the pitch and simply believes he is going to score when he's in an AFCB shirt. Bournemouth need that confidence and his sharpness in front of goal and the upcoming matches will provide him with suitable chances to show us all just how good he is. Callum could still get into Gareth Southgate's thoughts if he can start putting away the goals and it would be a pleasing new challenge for Callum if he could find that he is called upon for international duty by next summer.

Callum just wants to play now. |
Callum is very different to the other strikers at the club. He has a dynamic quality to running and spots where he needs to be very quickly to get ahead of defenders. It is strange how Callum's reappearance sums up AFCB's hopes for a rise up the league as before the season started we would have expected Jermain Defoe and Josh King to be a pairing that would be set for most of the season. But things haven't clicked and Benik Afobe and Lys Mousset have probably won more game than they might have even expected to this point.

of course he has a lot of work to do before imagining that scenario, but it is just exciting to be in the crowd to see Callum making his return. The next few fixtures are going to see a different front line up I would think. Hopefully, Josh King will also overcome his back trouble and illness to also be in contention along with Defoe. AFCB have the goal power but they need to find the right strike partnership in the next few games. To sign up for the newsletter just complete the form below - like all good things it's free!
