The way the season has progressed with AFCB gradually slowing in the points accumulation puts much more importance on fixtures like the one against Wolves who are in a similar position in the league. Taking points off of teams that are around you is always a must to improve your position, and Bournemouth know that another five wins will push them towards safety which has to be their first goal.
Wolves have only won one game fewer than AFCB. While the pressure from being at home can be difficult, the Cherries are picking up points on the road this season and they will be pleased not to be taking on a top six side today. The Cherries have had a full week to prepare for this match and Eddie Howe will be well aware that a defeat would likely see AFCB fall out of the top 10.
Far from worrying about the opposition as has probably been the case against Man City and Liverpool, Bournemouth can concentrate on what they do best for this match. If the Cherries can go into the game concentrating on what they want to do and how they can cause problems, they should start well. They need to drop the anxiety of losing points in the last few weeks and try and mount a serious drive for points again to build confidence.
A big part of that should be the aim of getting back to clean sheets. Bournemouth have let in eight goals in their last three matches and while the opposition has included two top six sides in that run, AFCB have a good chance to get a shut out against a team that has only scored 17 goals in their 16 games. So Wolves are averaging about one goal a game. Bournemouth know that they have the quality to score more than one goal a game and they may well need that to win this game.
Picking up away points would make up for recent home defeats. |
